Next generation U11 X1 spy shots

https://www.autoblog.com/2020/06/05/...eration-spied/

Quote:
The BMW X1, the brand's entry-level crossover, is nearly half a decade old at this point, so it's not a surprise that there are new-generation models out testing. One of our spy photographers caught this example in relatively thin camouflage for a completely redesigned model. From the looks of it, it's a continuation of current design themes with a dash of aggression.

The front end of this prototype is the easiest to see and shows quite a few changes. The headlights wrap farther around into the front fenders, and they're swept up more. The hood also flows more gently into the fenders with gentle angles, rather than the boxier current model. The grille looks a bit taller than that on today's X1, but it isn't nearly as prodigious as the new 4 Series coupe's, confirming the brand's plans to have more unique designs for its various models.

The X1's upright profile and large windows remain, but the rear hatch area sees some changes. The rear window now stretches from the top nearly to the taillights. The little spoiler-esque lip on the hatch of so many BMW crossovers seems to have vanished. The rear bumper also seems to sit higher than the current X1's.

Since the X1 just got an update for 2020, we suspect it could be a couple of years before the new X1 is revealed, possibly in 2022. The current model shares its platform and engines with the Mini Countryman, and we expect that will continue with the next generation. Odds are it will be on a significantly updated or all-new platform for both cars, rather than the current one. Power will probably come from either a turbocharged three-cylinder or an optional turbocharged four-cylinder. A plug-in hybrid will probably be offered, too.

Nice. We love our 2016 - it does everything we need it to! - and may be ready to upgrade when this comes out.

As an X1 owner, the resale value on these has been abysmal. So if ya want one, buy a low mile, late model, and save some $$.

Hopefully they do something different with that exhaust...that's very much not doing it for me.

I actually kind of like the first gen x1 based on e90 chassis, might want one with 6 cylinder turbo.

Rendering??? That is just a copy of the current version where someone misplaced the door handles, rounded the headlight a bit and moved the red rear reflex into the bumper. Btw they also used the old small 70mm tail pipes.

For comparing a couple of pics of my 2020:

I must say the X1 is a handsome looking little SUV. There are subtle differences in the headlights, taillights, door handles on the renders but the rest of the vehicle is the same.

Do the X1, X2 and MINI Countryman use pretty much the same platform/powertrain?

New BMW X1 Spied Again, Munich Confirms Pure Electric Version Coming

https://www.motor1.com/news/439224/b...ler-spy-shots/

Quote:
It's being carried on a trailer along with other camouflaged prototypes.

Last June, a BMW X1 was spotted with an iX3 prototype, heavily wrapped in camouflage and but showing some details, nonetheless. This was before the rear-driven electric model's official launch in July.

Now, a rendering was made based on those spy shots, but details are still scarce at this point. Our spy photographers caught the smallest Sports Activity Vehicle in its hometown in Bavaria. Still wrapped in camo, the new X1 was spotted being carried on a trailer along with other concealed prototypes. There's also a camouflaged Mini spotted with it as you can see in the set of spy photos below.

There's not much of a difference between the spotted X1 here and from the previous spy shots, except that this new set shows a different set of black wheels. It's still notable that the grille remains to be relatively small compared to the controversial 4 Series lungs, as well as the wrap-around headlights that almost touch with the front fenders.

At the rear, the huge spoiler with the third brake light resides plus but there isn't any clue as to the number of exhaust tips we'll expect from the X1. There are cutouts on the taillights this time, though, which gives us a sneak peek into the circular light fixture.

Meanwhile, BMW has confirmed in a release that the upcoming X1 will have an all-electric version, along with another volume seller, the 5 Series. The purely electric drive models will join the current plug-in hybrid choices, further expanding BMW's electric vehicle portfolio. The 7 Series is also confirmed to get an all-electric version.

Per the release, BMW's soonest goal is to sell over a million electrified cars by the end of 2021. This was spearheaded by the iX3, which features the fifth generation of BMW eDrive technolog.

Looks pretty big for just an X1 wow. And to think the first gen was literally just a lifted E91 and looks tiny in comparison.

Looks to me suspiciously like a long wheel base X1 for the Chinese market.

Seven seats this time to be offered against the GLB mercedes-Benz.
Think of X1 as a mini-X7.

New BMW X1 hits the road in disguise ahead of 2022 launch

Some updated spy pictures of the upcoming X1 undergoing testing, courtesy of Autocar:

Quote:
BMW has begun road testing its third-generation X1 ahead of an expected debut in the first half of 2022.

The small SUV, which is technically closely linked to the latest 1 Series hatchback, was seen with the disguise typical of a model that’s not all that far from an unveiling.

However, given that the current X1 has only just been facelifted, having first gone on sale in 2015, we don’t expect to see the new car becoming official during next year.

Visually, it appears the next X1 will feature a design evolved from that of the newer, bolder X2, as well as the new 1 Series. What appear to be enlarged kidney grilles fit into this, while the overall shape is more angular and distinctive. It also seems to be slightly larger, with more of an upright roofline to help differentiate the X1 from the X2.

Inside, we will see the latest generation of intotainment, comfort and safety technology to bring the Audi Q3 rival in line with newer challengers and the rest of BMW's range. But more interesting are the powertrain choices set to be on offer.

Autocar understands the new X1 will make use of a heavily reworked version of the current model’s UKL platform. Although details of that aren't yet official, the Munich brand confirmed last month that an electric version of the next X1 (likely dubbed iX1 in line with the sub-brand naming strategy) will arrive by 2023. This will sit alongside existing petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid variants expected to arrive a year prior.

Details of the iX1 are thin on the ground, but expect some relation to the recently revealed iX3, which uses a 282bhp single-motor rear-wheel-drive powertrain and promises a WLTP range of 285 miles.

The iX1 will form a core part of BMW's ambition to introduce 25 further electrified models by 2023. That’s expecially true, due to the standard X1's popularity - nearly 110,000 examples were registered in Europe alone throughout 2019.
