Hi all,

I've been wondering this for a while, but I can't seem to find the answer.

When you want to tag a user mid comment using the "@" symbol, how do you tag a user with a space in their username? Whenever I add the space, the tag ends and moves onto the next word. I feel like I should know this by now but never figured it out.

The short answer: You can't.

The long answer: It all depends on the forum configuration. If configured, you can use a "." or "_" or "-" in place of the space. Without an admin telling you, it's hard to figure out if it's even possible. Usernames that contains spaces would not have been allowed during creation. If there exist usernames containing a space, it most likely had been imported from a previous version or product.

Thanks. The developer in me was hoping for an escape character or delimiter to grab the whole username. I've seen a few tags here and there that appear to have spaces in the usernames, but the issue is if the name you are looking for isn't in the immediate window of suggestions, seems like you're SOL.

A possible workaround is to manually generate the tag using BBCode.

Every username has a unique member/user ID#
This ID# can be obtained via the suffix of the profile page of each individual user.

Using BBCode's standard format for tagging forum users, a tag can be generated manually with the code provided that the formatting, username, and ID# is correct.
