Just chalk it up to stupid things happen to stupid people. It's not worth trying to figure what happen we have no idea how long the person was at it. As someone pointed out the obvious why did the person simply get out when it caught fire, my first statement covers that answer.

I see that a the dragstrip. Some hotdog guy goes through the waterbox and does his burnout. Instead of holding the rpms at a constant speed to heat up his tires, he is on and off the throttle over and over and over again (I guess to attract attention). Those drivers are easy wins to get to the next round.
