Anyone Upgrade from Windows 10 to 11? Impressions?
I've contemplated it but I know from experience how buggy these new Windows roll outs are. I've read multiple reviews and the general consensus is that if you're happy with 10, stand pat for a while until Microsoft gathers more user feedback and eventually offers a Service Pack. But I'm sure some of you already moved forward with the upgrade. What's your experience?

I was going to sacrifice my Surface to try it, but it didn't meet the specs, so I said F it. I'll wait for the bugs to come out......

I'm not a fan.... there's a lot less customizability. It's almost like they're trying to mimic Mac OS in some regards... which I hate. Simple things like adjusting the taskbar are a pain. Things like.... taskbar items get grouped by default and there's no option to un-group them. I prefer my taskbar items ungrouped.

Using W11, I see no improvement, and very little difference, to W10. |

I think a crap load of people have expressed these concerns and a "fix" has already been created or will be. A buddy of mine had been using the beta version from quite a while ago before it was formally released. He described some of the stuff you mentioned along with other things. It actually sounds like it's pretty stable. I just don't like how the taskbar is setup but have a feeling I can get used to it if I bother upgrading.

I know the taskbar specifically (unless something's changed from when I upgraded to now), literally doesn't allow for things like moving the taskbar to the left/top/right of the screen, (you're stuck with having the taskbar at the bottom of the screen), and it does not allow for ungrouping of taskbar items. So multiple browser windows will be grouped for example. I've tried looking for solutions and there's some suggestions on attempting to alter the code to allow it to happen but they're not proven methods.

I'm quite happy with it. Been using it for a couple of months. For me it mostly looks like a new skin for Win10. And actually, if you run it in a VM and the VM is slow starting, you can sometimes see the normal Win10 interface loading in the background before it changes to Win11

Yeah I'm not talking about the button position on the taskbar (aside from grouping). I've got mine moved over to the left side. I'm saying 1) The entire taskbar is limited to the bottom of the screen and 2) Inability to un-group taskbar items. Both functionalities are completely missing from 11.

In the beginning I found it odd to have the buttons in the middle.
But using a widescreen monitor it is actually better having them in the middle. One don't need to move the mouse as long to get to them.

I am waiting mainly because I don’t want to deal with checking comparability with applications I use or finding out the hard way there is a problem.
Is there a longer future support period for 11 vs. 10? That would be the only reason I would consider it down the road but could end up with a new laptop that comes with 11 before I take the 10 to 11 plunge for this laptop.

I upgraded from 10 to 11 several weeks ago and so far, so good. All of my games and sims still work.
Then I upgraded my graphics card from a GTX 1080 to an AMD RX 6900 X and one of my sim games crapped out. Turns out that sim can't handle DirectX 12.

Me too. At least you can shift the buttons on the taskbar to the left though in the settings.

Certainly not going 11 on any of my managed clients at work, waiting a few months minimum. New machines may no be an option, although we can probably still burn the 10 image onto everything.
Certainly nobody AT WORK needs a new interface, or faster gaming. . . |

I don't see any incentive to do so and having a couple of gaming rigs I don't want to "fix" something that isn't broken. So far it seems like a new skin for Win10.
I might load it up in a VM to check it out.
