Easiest way of getting real time location of an iPhone on my Android?
No, I'm not spying on anyone
With that out of the way.... My not so tech savvy parents are driving down to Florida this weekend. This is the first time they are doing this alone and are planning on stopping for sleep somewhere in the Carolinas. I don't need any features other than tracking their location in case they need help finding a hotel or a gas station that is not in a shady area. I know that there are a ton of "spy" apps out there, I just need something simple that doesn't kill the battery. Should I just use iCloud's Find my phone feature? TIA

Google maps is OK but since IOS doesnt let it run quite as a service it doesnt update realtime. My girlfriend and I were trying to do that for location sharing and it would constantly be out of date.
I dont know if there is a fully realtime option for iphone on other devices since apple kind of gimps all 3rd party services to make theirs more appealing. |

The easiest thing to do is call them and ask where they are. If they know the road and approx location on it, you can use Google Maps to find them pretty quickly (GM has exit numbers, if you zoom in enough, so you can really get close to mile marker estimates). My wife is directionally challenged so sometimes will call me when she is driving and ask where she is. I can usually find her this way. The more info she can give me, the faster I can pinpoint her location.
There are not many places left where you can’t get through via phone. |

Anyway, can you create an iCloud account? If so, have them share their location to your iCloud account using Find My on their iPhone. Then, you should be able to log into iCloud through Chrome on your phone and see them in near-real-time. |

The above note in your original post suggests that you may have access to their iCloud account (using their Apple ID). Is that correct?
If yes, can you log in to https://www.icloud.com/find/ using their Apple ID credentials? If so, I think that should give you exactly what you need. Just make sure they've enabled Find My on their device(s). |

You can always do it the old way using a CB. Breaker. Breaker. What's your 20?

Thanks, I've glanced at it and I don't want to be that intrusive. Thanks all for the suggestions, I think I'll do a combo of gmaps and locating them via icloud, I just need to find/ recover their icloud info and save it on one of my PCs because "mama, write this down and keep it someplace safe" has failed me once again.

I just looked at the distances and times, not knowing exactly where they are starting or ending the trip. If they are starting in Boston, driving I95, North Carolina is about 13 hours plus stops and that assumes they can get around NYC and DC pretty well.
My wife will only tolerate 13 hours in the car if we absolutely have to. 8 is ideal, 10 max. And then the next day shorter to recover a bit. Joys of getting older, I guess. If we were making that drive I’d try to get just south of DC and stop there. That way we could start fresh the next morning and not have to battle DC traffic. For hotels along the route, we use Hampton (Hilton if you have points) and the Sleep/Comfort/Clarion most. Some Holiday Inns are ok but some are not, Best Western seems to be overpriced but some have recently upgraded. I also have Marriott points but their properties never seem to work for us. Ask for a room away from the interstate and elevator to have a quiet stay. On our last trip the rates were lower if we booked on line, even same day. |

I've been using Google Maps location sharing on 3 iOS devices and it's usually not that out of date, a major location changes should push an update.
Both WhatsApp and Telegram have a "live location sharing" option for 8-10 hours if you really need up to date information. |
