Water here is very hard & I can't wash the car without immediately drying that panel after washing.

Outside of an expensive water treatment system, anything that can be done to help with hard water spots?

I've looked at some of those inline filters on Amazon, but so many mixed reviews that I have no idea if any of them actually will help. Looks like the Mr. Clean AutoDry thing is no longer as well

Nothing really. Previous house had ridiculously hard water and generally windy on top of that. Washing the car on a sunny breezy day was out of the question because the panel dried the moment it was rinsed.

My solution was to wash in the shade before the sun got too high, and to keep the entire car constantly wet. After each panel was rinsed I sprayed the whole car again. Then the race with the drying cloth to wipe all panels before the last one dried.

It worked but required planning.

next best solution would be to bring your products to the local spray wash. they usually have a 'spot free rinse' option (basically distilled water) and its shaded.

Previous owner left some stupid-bad spots on the paint and glass. I used Chemical Guys water spot remover and it probably knocked it down by 60-80%. Still some visible deposits, but MUCH less visible.

To avoid more spots, in addition to the above recommendations, I like using detailing spray as much as possible. If it's just dust and regular grime, Optimum detailer spray works magic!

Do you have a garage or some kind of shade at home where you're washing your car?

1. Have your paint paint corrected to get rid of water spots (best way possible, really) and then protected with coating.
2. Try not to wash in direct sunlight.
3. When washing with pH neutral shampoo and nr. 2 is an issue, do not rinse car; leave the shampoo'd water on it as the pH-neutral shampoo should make the water less hard
4. When rinsing it off, use the sheeting method; leaves a lot less water on your protected paint
5. With just a few droplets of water left behind, use dry aid/detailer with a MF rag to dry the car completely.

Local touch-less car wash places should have de-ionised water. Could even bring your washing supplies (buckets with shampoo, mitts, detailer) with you outside of rush hours.

Been using the rinseless wash stuff for a while. Obviously, doing things by hand cannot get to places my pressure washer can to make my life easier.

Not interested in going to car washes to have others wash them

Put a 1/4 cup of white vinegar in your wash bucket, works great, does not cut your wax….

I use Ultima waterless wash after washing and this stuff works miracles on hard water spots

I haven't washed the beloved Red Roadster in five years....

Since I don't drive it in rain conditions, it doesn't get filthy - just dusty.

This product DOES NOT SCRATCH THE PAINT.

This also prevents rusty rotor discs, water finding its way into places that damage convertible top motors, etc.

Been doing rinseless wash for years already. By hand does not get to all the places my pressure washer can is the issue.

The best system I ever used was CR Spotless. A little bit of an investment, but it works amazingly well. I personally used the DIC-20.

You can literally wash your car in the blazing hot sun, regardless of how soft or hard your water is, and just let it dry by itself with literally zero spots.

This product effectively removed hard water spots from my windshield, sunroof & rear window glass.

The YouTube how-to videos show users with orbital machines. I did it by hand with 3 clean microfiber cloths...one to apply the polish (3 drops for a small section) then rub until dry, one damp with water to clear any big smears, and a dry cloth to polish to a shine.

It took a few tries to perfect my technique. YMMV - CS

Lots of good ideas re how to prevent water spots from occurring. I've had fine results using Turtle Wax rubbing compound to clean up water spots after they have set up. It's a $3-5 product.
