Dealership Damaged Wheel - Experiences?
I went into the dealership with my brand new '22 M240i. One of the stock Pirelli P7 RFTs had developed a sidewall bubble at only 500~ miles. According to the Pirelli website, they offer one year of road hazard protection for original equipment tires, but the dealership gave me a hard time about processing a claim and honoring said protection. They told me they'd send me a bill if they couldn't figure out how to process the claim with Pirelli. In addition to that, their tech damaged the wheel with a power tool when mounting it back on the car. I have 791M Jet Black wheels, which are painted. Not sure if the area where the damage occurred can be easily repaired. Does anyone have similar experiences and can share how they managed the conversation with dealership management? What was the outcome? Should I push for a new wheel? The picture might look odd, like reflections, but those are fact gouges that go down to bare metal.

Put a few dabs of touch-up paint from a bottle on it and call it a day. Crap happens, don't let it ruin the car for you. Of all the places to scrape paint, that's about the least important. Sure, it sucks, but - it'll be the first of many blemishes.

I've had this happened and showed the damage to the service manager right away before leaving the dealer. They admitted fault and at first tried to repair the wheel. When the results weren't 100% like new, I insisted on a new wheel and they finally agreed after I made a huge deal about it and contacted the general manager.

thats the scratch inside the lug hole ?
I wouldn't be happy. I'm curious if the pneumatic jumped when the bolt tightened to way over spec. If the other lug bolts loosen properly like they weren't overtorqued I might let it slide. If all the lugs turn out to be extremely tight I might go back to dealer and kindly discuss the issue due to the newness. I just purchased a new wheel for my 235 due to my one and only curb rash, About $600. |

Also, I would say that kind of scratch is a fluke. That the Tech isn't a real dick for doing that. See what happens, act cool and mention the low miles. |

TL;DR version - my dealer replaced all four of my wheels with brand new ones after gouging one wheel when installing new tires.
Long version - I had my dealer install new tires on my M2 after about 1.5 years of ownership. In the process, they gouged one of my wheels. I pointed it out to them and they sent the wheel out to a third party for repair. The repair was TERRIBLE and the finished wheel no longer matched the other three wheels. So the dealer sent the remaining three wheels out for repair at the same third party. After that, all four wheels looked awful. I have black 437Ms and you could tell that they painted the whole wheel black and then attempted to machine the spokes to expose the metal underneath — but the machined sections were different sizes and no longer flat. Not only that, but the paint was very, very bumpy — not smooth and glossy at all like it was when new. Anyway, I took my car back to the dealer, showed them all the problems, and they replaced all four of my wheels with brand new ones without hassle. |

The dealer I have been using for years damaged the face of one of my wheels when switching tires, and THEY brought it to my attention right away. They said they were sending all 4 in to be refinished because they found when doing only 1 wheel, they never get a perfect match. Good group of guys there.

This is why I never buy tires from a dealer. Discount Tires have never damaged a wheel of mine.

Unfortunately dealerships are the only ones who readily carry these shitty BMW Spec Pirelli tires. Can't wait to be off them.

The michelins look SO much better. I hate my Pzeros. The fronts looks so oversized its gross! I must have .5" of rubber past the rim lip. I like how the michelins have a very slight trapezoid shape to them / \.

If the dealer damaged one of my wheels when it was in for service I’d be p***ed and demand they replace it with a new one. The refinished wheel will NEVER look like the others unless they screw them all up..sorry, “refinish” all of them them. My 2020 X3 will be getting Michelins when the factory P ZEROs wear out. |

That's the correct response from a dealer that values its customers. |
