Others have said it better, but it's styling and presence don't align with its price tag. Sort of the opposite of the Korean brands lately, offering vehicles at a far more affordable price point than expected based on appearances.

I've seen and sat in the car in person. In person it does look better then in pictures but overall it's still an ugly vehicle on the exterior. I actually find the side profile of the car to be worse then front. It just looks like a giant i3, which i thought looked terrible. The only thing i liked exterior wise was the rear end. Otherwise front and side is just 👎. My wife just straight up hates everything about the exterior of the ix
I did however liked the interior alot. It felt very luxurious and modern. Shame about the lack of physical buttons though. |

Ditto. Ugly to me is 90% of the Asian car jelly-bean styling, and pretty much 100% of any Mercedes on the exterior (but if you think an egg is beautiful, rock on) And other BMW styling of late hasn't been Classic - the X7 is approaching the range of the Family Truckster as far as looks, and was globally lambasted for it's front snout when it arrived. "Looks" is very personal in a car, and far from universal. Social media and the "OK I don't need to think about it, I'll just follow everyone else's opinion" crowd has contributed I think, but again, personal opinion. I have standards. If you don't like those, I have others.

I had a chance to take one out for a test drive yesterday.
Overall - it looks a lot better in person. I hated it at first, but I’d say it’s borderline “good” from all angles except the front. Where is disagree with folks is on the interior. Our car had SensaTec, which is ok… but this is a 100k car. It was very spartan to the point of being boring. The giant horizontal screen was just a novelty. The car was fast, but not in a life changing kind of way. I also sat in an i4 and overall it felt much nicer to me. At the same time, I think the iX is going to sell really well. It’s just not for me. |

It's hideous. My once fiery passion has fizzled. I'm still love BMW but as far as new models I think it may be over. G20 and g30 bodies are okay, interiors I love and driving dynamics and characteristics I actually love but right now I feel like f10 was the pinnacle. The passion is just about gone, I may just focus on my old school American muscle, idk. Did I mention I HATE Asian vehicles from every generation? lol…
PS: BMW, please keep (at least a niche) offering for the enthusiast. This is coming from a guy that was arguing for, sticking up and holding you down up until a few months ago. I was actually happy with the f30 and f10. I loved the more "numb" and " comfort and luxury based ride". I've always loved BMW. I don't even mind electric cars, I just hate the whole styling of them. What about a regular car with a electric drivetrain? Idk, I'm a niche consumer and enthusiast I guess… BMW, Stick to your German roots and don't try to copy Asian v's because they have more of the market. It's the prices! Not the styling? Or anything else ! Stick to your guns on both accounts and you will prosper as a brand and company! PLEASEEEE! |

When I picked up my 430 convertible, one of these was parked next to it. Appeared to be about the same length and possibly the size of an X3. $90k. No thanks.
Edit: ok it's 7 inches longer than my car and 9 inches longer than an X3. Width and height are about the same as X3. |

This is the best looking, most futuristic BMW in and out. I hate SUVs, even I'm contemplating this now. All the X cars look like they're from last decade now. (Maybe except for the LCI X7)

Don’t listen to the idiot trolls. It’s a great looking car. Refreshingly futuristic exterior and a truly amazing interior.

Time for RBR to get a real job and stop pretending
1. He is objective 2. Knows anything about cars 3. Would influence the purchase decision of anyone with half a brain. You want to seriously consider this car see it the flesh, drive it and make your mind up |

On the design side of things: The oversized grill was one of my least favorite design elements on the 4 series, so it was unfortunate to see an even larger unnecessary fake grill on the i series. The designers seem like they're caught up trying to simultaneously pay tribute to the i and the X brands, not allowing themselves the freedom to design a car that breaks free of the past. You basically end up with the awful oversized grill from the 4 series (now it's even a pointless fake grill), the odd black body paneling from the i3 (at the side skirts, bumpers, and window line), the rear bumper has some kind of fake dual exhaust cutout going on, and the wheel options are pretty weird. It's not the worst design ever, but it just never feels quite right. You look at it and kind of imagine a price point about $20k less than the actual cost (and that's starting from the assumption that you're going to pay more for an electric).
I played around with the iX and the i4 at the dealership. Just a quick impression on iDrive 8: it's nice, but it feels more evolutionary coming from iDrive 7. In a Telsa, with it's far from perfect interface, you still get the impression you're using something that was born in the same world as the iPhone. With the BMW, things were still clearly developed by a car company. That's not to say it's bad - it's just a much different feel and experience. Why can't a vehicle equipped with iDrive 7 just software update to iDrive 8 anyways? |
