We stayed further away from the crazy parts and stayed at the Havana Cabana. They have a free shuttle to Duval St and other areas. Cuban theme resort. The provide BEST smelling shampoo/soap EVER!!!

I remember there being a public beach on the south side of Key West when I was there as a kid. IIRC, the "sand" was pretty sharp coral and would cut up bare feet if you didn't wear sneakers or flip-flops. That beach was the only place where I ever had to evacuate from the water because the lifeguard spotted sharks among the swimmers, so from my perspective there may be a reason why there are no beaches in Key West.....

You don’t go there for the beaches correct. It’s not the glorious sand I have 10 miles from where we live.
We would be going for a foodies, sight seeing getaway. Many go for diving and lobster catching but yes, def not a beach location

We had reservations at somewhere different every night and stumbled upon a restaurant called Kaya Island Eats. After eating there, we cancelled our reservations the last night and went back there. It is by far the best food on the island. It is not even close. It's not pricey or flashy, but the chef is as good as they come. Everything we had was incredible and the chicken wings were from another world. Be sure to try those.

After looking it up, it had a 4.9 star rating out of over 600 reviews. It is difficult for a restaurant to get a 4.9 but it was legit. Whoever didn't give them a 5 star rating must have been having a bad day. You won't be disappointed if you stop by for lunch or dinner.
I took this picture just around the corner from Coco Plum.

When driving in Key West, be aware that they enforce the speed limits seriously. When I was there, there were Motor Cops with radar everywhere. Nice white crisp shirts and no sense of humor.

Crossing the Seven Mile Bridge in sweltering heat and looking forward to the hotel pool and a cold one or two...
