Happening more and more. I'll post in a FS thread and the next day I get an unsolicited PM from someone ,with just enough posts or reputation points to please the sites requirements for sending PMs, telling me they have the same product for sale and that I should text them at the provided number.

I check their posts, usually around 30 of them, and they're all Good. Kool. Loooks nice., BS one or two word posts. Again, just to get around the sites requirements.

Tried something similar with me. Bought an item from a legit seller and suddenly an unsolicited message shows up asking my location and telling me to text them. Same 816 number you have listed. Told him I don't text random numbers and he just kept trying to get me to text him. Annoying.

My two cents USD is to shut down the FS section completely. There are plenty of other places to sell/trade parts online, and all that FS sections of forums do this day is attract Nigerian scammers who have been booted from Craigslist and puppyfinder.com.

I'm on another (non-BMW) automotive marque forum, and their policy is that new members can't even read the FS forums until they have at least 100 posts, have been a member for at least 90 days, and their participation quality has been reviewed by a site moderator or admin. Hiding the section completely using the first two settings should be enough to discourage the hit-and-run scammers without adding any additional burdens on the volunteer staff of under-appreciated admins and moderators.

Along these same lines, setting a restriction on some of the Universal Forums (OT in particular) will eliminate SEO/spambot posts there, because Google would be blocked from searching those pages and they would be useless for SEO.....

As part of my job responsibilities, I hunt screwy Nigerian princes for a pay check. I see hundreds of gift card, sextortion, and direct deposit bank change scam emails caught in the work email filters every day, and unfortunately it isn't getting any better.....
