Only in Hawaii

Only in Hawaii, where fireworks are illegal, will you find the whole island celebrating like this at midnight…Happy New Year 2023!

Glad to see some things haven't changed! And the smoke in the aftermath that literally covers the island is incredible.

The only thing that’s changed is ever since Oahu banned all regular fireworks like fountains, morning glories, sparklers, etc. because everyone was complaining about the smoke, the amount of aerials that everyone plays now has gone way up. Which makes sense because if the regualr fireworks such as fountains and sparklers are now illegal, you might as well just get all aerials. What blows my mind though is how everyone on the island can afford to buy all these aerials cause they are hella expensive.

In recent years the smoke hasn’t been too bad as compared to before they made all fireworks illegal. But this year was bad cause there wasn’t the normal tradewind breeze to blow it out and there was no wind at all.

yeah first new years here in hawaii for me and it was AMAZING to see the level of fireworks going off all over the island. Such an impressive show.

You’re right, it’s not for everyone…but for most of us locals playing fireworks on New Years is tradition and we grew up doing it.

Do it…but you can’t stay in Waikiki expecting to see all this. You have to go to the west side of the island (Ewa Beach, Kapolei, Waipahu) to see all this.

There’s only really one way to get them in and that’s by cargo containers on boats…but getting them here isn’t the problem, getting the containers past inspections is the key…but with the corruption at the ports it’s all about the 💵💵💵. Lol.
