DIY Plush Steering Wheel Wrap?
Has anyone ever done the plush steering wheel wraps where you have to thread around the wheel such as the picture I provided? If you have how easy was it to install and did it hold up after a while it use or can you tell that it’s aftermarket and cheap?
Link to the one I’m looking at-https://www.ebay.com/itm/35408708175...mSWdEbB0ykNaVU |

I've done one before. Given you take proper care doing it, it can come out very nice. You really should dismount the steering wheel and all the trim for the best result. There are a couple challenges.
Getting the cover lined up- the 2 and 10 lumps are challenging. you need to get the start of the seam dead on as it is near impossible to shift the cover once you start. Depressions- some areas are slack on covers and you need to glue or tape them to keep them down Tucking edges. Hopefully they cut the pattern a bit long and you'll have plenty to tuck under the plastic bit, but it can leave unfinished edges if they use too small a pattern. Done well they are great provided the pattern is good. It look me about 3-4hrs last time I did one. |

Thanks for such a detailed response! Is there a specific guide on YouTube you recommend or are any of them good enough? Also I really was planning to do it without taking off my wheel- is that something possible or will I definitely have to

I think I just used the one the MFR provided. I'd strongly recommend taking the wheel completely off. Not only will it save you a ton of time and frustration, but how straight and consistent your stitch is depends on thread tension. It is way way easier to tension evenly with it out of the car.

I can't imagine the wheel being any thicker than it is. Maybe remove the leather and add this trim? Most guys agree that the CS wheel is too thick, which is what the stock wheel would be like with a covering.

Some like it thick. More importantly I think these kits are usually cut to go over the stock leather. Also worst case is you snip the stitches and take it off. Removing the stock cover would be a whole other level of risk.

+1 for Coby Wheel. Mike is great to work with and my F10 steering wheel came out beautiful in leather wrap. I tried the eBay/Amazon cheap wrap and that's what you get, cheap. Leather not even close in quality and feel, and it smelled awful. Also tried Colourlock to fix the worn out leather - not the best feeling in your hands.
Been 2 years and still looks like the picture. My original wheel on the right before shipping back as core. Quote:
