Customer obsession means putting your personal life behind work.

You will learn a lot and work hard, but if you expect to cruise you will get managed out.

Its great experience, and if you get an offer negotiate hard, after their first offer, then they have to close you, cause you wont see more money over your first 4 years.
What group did you work with and what did you do?

Have an interview with the hiring manager early next week. The process keeps slowly rolling along.

I guess that Amazon's HR department doesn't include free two-day Prime delivery.....

Ha! Well they reached out to me on Monday to schedule the interview and sent me a link to their calendar thing, I almost scheduled it for today or tomorrow. But I actually read everything on the page, there was a note on the page:

"Note: Please schedule the interview for at least 5 business days after receiving this email as it can take 2-3 days to schedule with the interviewer."

Even though it showed today/tomorrow open. It would be pretty bad if a tech writer didn't RTFM, so to speak.

But stuff with big companies almost always takes a long time. I had 4 interviews with NetSuite, the interviews all happened within about 2.5 weeks and then I got the verbal offer. Then it took another 3-4 weeks to get the written offer.

Another thing slowing us down here is that the hiring manager was out on vacation for 3+ weeks until just the beginning of last week. So she's been catching up.

One of the PM's I work with here said it took 6 weeks from verbal to written offer!

I passed my loop interview, but it was a slough to get through. I must have just barely squeaked by because my offer was down leveled to L4. The base pay was lower than my current, and while the TC was higher, it wasn't enough to get worse benefits and much worse work:life balance. I declined. Overall a waste of time but at least it's probably the hardest interview I will ever have to do.

Why do you say worse work:life balance? I thought you posted earlier in the thread, but I don't remember, what position were you going for? Dev?

The thing that is keeping me optimistic about it is how long many of the people on the managers team have been there.

I need to work on my STAR interview stuff this weekend. I know what project I'll use, just need to get it all on paper so to speak.

It was for a Security Engineer position in AWS. AWS is pretty notorious for bad WLB.

Yes, know your stories in STAR format. I wrote out probably 20 scenarios in preparation for the loop. I asked my recruiter what leadership principles we key for the position and he gave me the top 5 LPs but also said to prepare for the others as any are open during the loop. Pretty much all of my LP questions were for those 5 that me mentioned. So make sure you talk to your recruiter, they want to you to get hired too.

I don’t know about that, maybe for some people. I only considered them when I needed a job but it was below what I was currently making. I was thinking maybe I’d make it up with stock etc. They had a laborious process that took too long and I had a better offer with a quicker process and took that instead.

Thanks for the honest feedback.

I don't think it's going to matter though. 1.5 hour long interview yesterday, didn't get a good vibe from it. So I suspect I'm likely out of the running for the position.

Got the email Friday afternoon that they are not moving forward with me after last weeks interview, so it's as I expected since I wasn't really able to click with the interviewer.

So I'll keep looking, good thing is that I still already have a good job.

For those of you who work for Amazon, how has it been under the leadership of the new CEO?

Restricted Share/Stock Unit.

A form of compensation where you receive shares of the company but are restricted from selling them for a certain period of time.
