anyone know anything about rent?
How's it going guys? I recently moved out of my apartment and went back home for the summer(I'm a college student), and I just received my deposit back...$130 less. So I called up my former roommate(who is also the landlord of the place) and asked him why the fuck was $130 dollars deducted from my deposit. He replies by saying I broke his garage opener, and put a few holes in the walls of the bedroom. You see, the thing is, the first day I moved in he gave me a broken garage opener and informed him about it, from that day on, I've been just using the key to open the garage. (so essentially he gave me a broken garage opener and blamed me for breaking it...shady? I think so). What can I do about it? What if I decide not to get in further arguments and decide to pay him. Is it in my right to ask for documents and proof that everything adds up to $130, and if not can I sue him?
Aside from all of that, I've been paying my bills through him. Meaning I've never seen any of the bills I just write him a check for whatever amount he said it was(I trusted him). Should I ask him to photocopy every bill he received for the period of time I was there? Any lawyers in the house? Someone please shed some light on this or offer me some opinions? Thanks...I just hate how being so cool w/ someone but he later turns out to be a shady douchebag. |

seriously - 130 bucks isn't worth what it's going to take to fight it. Neither of you have shit in writing.

$130 is not worth it, but there is a California tenant law somewhere, where it clearly states that holes in the walls are allowed, as long as they are screw/nail size and used to hold an artwork and shit like that

Something tells me he's not talking about holes in the wall made by a nail. If he is, that's allowed regardless of state (I'm pretty sure of this).

He's thinking it's an easy $130 for him, since you don't have the balls, the time, nor the inclination to go after him.
You'll get your $130 back, if it goes to court. I would think he'd have to pay court fees, also (if he loses). |
