Electrical Wiring Question
I need make some wiring repairs on my 2011 E92 and there seems to be little info on German wiring standards. Are wires on BMWs AWG sizes or DIN standard? Is there a difference?

BMW use mm2 for diameter. Easily enough to use mm2 to AWG tables to get equivalent AWG sizes. When buying cable just watch for copper plated aluminium cable. It doesn’t carry as much current as pure copper cables. Often sold in thicker gauges.

In about the late 80s the American car makers started to use a mix of AWG and DIN mm2 wiring specs. It’s common to find GM light trucks with what appears to be older AWG wiring, but the molded fusible links are marked with mm2 sizes. I assume it’s the same for cars. It’s easy to find a conversion table from AWG to mm2 wiring sizes.
