What is the best place to rent a car for a month?

Other than Turo...I am very familiar with Turo and don't want to go that route.

We are planning on driving from Phoenix to South Florida for 5-6 weeks in December...so need unlimited mileage and some backing if anything happens to the car.

I looked up Audi on Demand but there are no cars available in Phoenix to rent. Which sucks because the price for an A5 Sportback was only $1,300.

Is it best to just go thru an Enterprise? Anyone have any ideas? I'd like to spend no more than $2,000

Enterprise was going to be my suggestion, but I can’t say anything about their rates for a month long rental. I’m renting three minivans from them for a group trip for three days in October and they had the best rates. Wherever you rent be sure traveling that far out of state for that long will not be an issue.

I got a better one, have someone hit your car, repairs these days are hardly under a month... free rental.

With the online search, its's tricky to get the dates right for it to come up with the monthly rate plus the additional weeks. Whatever agency is in your area that you want to use, go there or call directly (not easy, auto fwd to central command) and ask them best rate option etc. Also usually the rates at the airport are cheaper than the rates in regular parts of town.

Just FYI Audi on demand isn't unlimited for monthly rentals only by the day. I too looked at Audi for a 3k miles trip this week but passed. I have an A8 but don't feel like putting more miles on since I've put 30k on it in a year. Audi gives me a 25% discount for being a owner.

I'm using Hertz, for a medium level car unlimited miles it's $240 per week. Also chose them since I won't have to use premium fuel and their cars will get better mpg. The fuel savings alone pays for the rental.

My brother rents monthly from Hertz and has for years, says it's the best deal round. He would know too since he use to be a research writer for the world's largest rental company.

I book with Hertz with the Amex Platinum discount.

$285 a week for a medium SUV, which gets upgraded to a large SUV at no cost because of President's Circle status that the Amex Platinum gets you.

I'm typically in a new Tahoe Premier or similar. Very very nice vehicle for road trips.

Well bummer, I just have the plain Jane AMEX. I did use it for the secondary insurance, of course my normal insurance provider covers it as well. The Platinum wouldn't pay it's fee back for me. I like Citi Double Cash Elite, I got over $700 cash back recently. I use it to buy business supplies and immediately pay it back. Put the cash into Bitcoin. No real other perks to talk about but the amount it pays back is excellent.

Interesting. I wonder if the Gold card gives you the same thing?

If you are a costco member, try their rental cars search.

Thanks for mentioning this!! I just reserved an Enterprise minivan for the group trip I mentioned previously for $70 less than I got going directly through Enterprise. I’m hopeful I’ll be able to use my membership to rent the additional two vans we need even though those drivers will not be Costco members! That would save us a total of $210.

Interesting, for my rental it would have cost me more to use my Costco membership. Did you try Hertz with the free gold membership?

In comparing prices over the last few years, Hertz frequently has the best price for medium sized cars. I am a Gold member and I rent a few times a year, so maybe that affects the price, but the membership is free.

The fall of 2020 and 2021 we rented an A5 Sportback and a X3 to drive from Minnesota to Florida for a month. We rented from Alamo since they had discounts for monthly rentals with unlimited miles. They had the best rates for luxury vehicles at the time. I have rental car insurance on my credit card.

From what I recall, Sixt would be a bad choice since you can only take the car in the surrounding states. They would charge you a hefty fee if taken outside the geographical territory in their rental agreement.

This page has the specifics under 'Territorial Restrictions & Rentals Across State Lines', which to me look quite variable depending upon the state where you pick the car up: https://www.sixt.com/rental-information/#/.

Regarding the second point:

"Renters using the rental vehicle in violation of the applicable territorial restrictions will be charged a fee of USD 0.50 for each mile the vehicle has been driven during the rental."

SIXT really wants its renters to stick to the contract.

What is the 'local territory' confined too?
