Climate change is a global environmental issue, not a UK economic issue.
When China is bringing new coal-fired power stations online to support new factories trying to meet the demand for cheap EVs and heat pumps for export markets including the UK it's not really addressing the root problem. I was disappointed to learn that the new MINI electric would only be manufactured in China and then heartened to hear that BMW had reconsidered and would also be building them at Plant Oxford in the UK with financial support from the UK government. Not sure if that still stands now. Much more "levelling up" needed to make EV charging viable for folks that are outside of the South East England privilege zone and don't have off-street parking and therefore have no access to a home charging point. And don't get me started on heat pumps ...
