Recall/technical enhancement 0063880100 (headlight gap?)
When did this become a thing?
Just been on the phone with BMW UK today to try and get to the bottom of the Recall 0072490200 farce (rear seat belts) and they also revealed that our X1 is part of the 0063880100 campaign as well. News to me as we haven't had a letter from them yet. Too late I fear as the offside headlight lens has already rubbed through the paint on the front edge of the wing (fender, if you prefer). Hope they can get it sorted before they start chucking salt on the roads, but as our local authority is all but bankrupt perhaps they won't be using salt this winter?

That’s been in action for months now but it’s not a recall as such it’s to be actioned when the vehicle goes in for service.
Sorry it’s rubbed the paint on yours, let’s hope BMW put it right. |

Breakdowns/warranty claims excepted, our X1 wouldn't ordinarily see the service department until the end of December 2024. That's 2 winter's worth of salt working it's way into the damaged panel.
If BMW had sent out an advisory notice when they first knew about we could have got this sorted in the summer before any real panel damage occurred.

I expect they will get you booked in now before it causes more damage.

Wow! They knew about it back in May and didn't bother telling us.

Yeah they change the production line to open the gap so later cars aren't affected. Early cars they made it very close fitting and as mentioned it can wear the paint away.
Decision is now if they paint it or need to will it look the same? |

Corrosion doesn't look to have crept into the "visible" part of the panel yet so might not be too bad. Needs care in dealing with the bare metal and a suitable primer applying, not just trying to hide with a touch-up stick. Near-side is fine. I can run a piece of cereal packet cardboard all around the gap.
