M sport package or m35i worth it?
Hi, I know this is probably a highly subjective question but do you think the car drives significant better with all the m sports additions (steering wheel, "adaptive" suspension, m sport breaks, etc.)? For those with m35i, do you think it's worth it over the 28i?
For the configuration I am looking at, m sport addition is about an additional $2500 and m35i is another $5000. I am really struggling to decide if I should get the base or base + msport or m35i. It seems like getting the x3 m40i is cheaper than getting the x1 m35i because the difference between an x3 m40i and a base x3 is also $10000 but that is a smaller percentage of the total price and on top of that you get a different engine and real dynamic dampers. Any thoughts is appreciated! |

As there is no iX1 in the USA, I personally, would go for the M35i. Otherwise, iX1 all day |

I bought the M Sport purely for cosmetic reasons. I didn’t really care about the paddle shifters or the suspension, though I do like the sport seats. But I’m also leasing the car for my business, so I’m not heavily invested in the long term ownership of it either. As much as I like this little SUV, I’m hoping when the lease is over I can finally get a true M car, or maybe even a Porsche.

The price people pay on insurance is crazy these days, in the UK insuring a new Range Rover (due to how many get nicked) is unbelievable, often over £10,000. Complete waste of money but then again if you have money to waste…

As someone who was considering the same options, an X3 M40i optioned out to have similar features as an X1 M35i, the price difference is about $12-13K.
Another good point as someone mentioned above, insurance premiums between the 2 have a pretty big disparity as well, I pay about 250/month for full coverage on my M35i, with really high limits. The same insurance policy for the M40i would run me about $100 more monthly, thats an additional $1200/annually that is a hidden cost. The differences between a 23i and an M35i are pretty distinct. The 23i/28i is really meant for daily commuting with the ability to have some pep and on demand AWD. It really depends on what the car is going to be for, for me, it's a daily commuter, that ended up being a compromise between my Wife and I. Originally I had a deposit in for an M2, then became an M240i, and then it became the X3 M40i, which ultimately became the X1 because there were no X3 M40i's to test drive (special order only, and all cars on lot were pre-sold). We had our first child recently so she didn't let me get a coupe. The M35i is really meant for a sporty type of drive. If I had to do it all over again, perhaps I may have chosen to get the 28i in M Sport with Active Seats. I do thoroughly enjoy the car, but I have back problems and the massage feature would really come in handy during traffic. Having driven both, and having had an X3 30i for a loaner over the course of 3 weeks, I am pretty content with ease, and convenience of the M35i. Now, if I could just get the car to function properly is another story, but I feel that even the 23i will have some of the growing pains that most of us on this board are going through. Just some food for thought, the choice is ultimately up to you and what works best for you. |

agree with what all the above replies already mentioned...
just want to add that if the OP can wait another year or so, the next X3 is probably a better choice. (assuming BMW doesn't make it unattractive like the new X2 that just came out) |

M pkg for me makes the car look a lot more aggressive. I personally prefer that pkg. as far as the 28 over the 35 depends, and like most said is very subjective. Both are more then you would need but at the same time if you can swing it why not get something a little more performance. But if you are on the fence and not super into performance the 28 is more then enough for day to day IMO.

Agreed re Msport package makes the car look much nicer, sportier and overall a more cohesive design. Can’t comment on whether you’d get the most out of performance on the M35. Tbh unless you love driving quickly and “giving it some welly” then I doubt you would care that much about the extra performance over the alteady quick other petrols.
I think it’s very easy to over think speccing a car. |

the only non M Sport X1 that I like is jet black or black sapphire color. If I got one of those two colors, I probably would not have opted for the M Sport package. |

The X3 M40 starts at $62K, so I don't really understand how that is cheaper than the X1 M35. |

I was wrong: 61900/48900 ~= 26% more vs 49900/40500 ~= 23 % more you are right that X3 m40i is still more expensive. |

since the current x3 is almost on its way out within the next year, you can probably get a much better deal on them. life is short. buy the car that your heart tells you to buy.(as long as you can comfortably afford it, both the purchase price and future maintenance/repair costs) |

X4 M40i with the extras in my 30e (which is at the same price as m35i) is around 96 000 USD!! My X1 is around 76 000 USD - these are bmw configurator prices and the discouns are minimal... Also - another thing M40i is like to the moon and back compare to X1 m35i.. B58,ZF,real Adaptive suspension, real X drive, real suspension with multilink, bigger, higher, comfortable more sophisticated as a car.. and 20k is not a small margin ..cause for another 20k you get X5 etc..sooo X1 and X3 will never be the close and wait for the new generation of X3 as we are comparing latest tech X1 with older X3 |
