Thule’s Wingbar Evo will fit the X1 (https://www.thule.com/en-us/roof-rac...ush%2520rails) but it’s like double the price of the OEM rack. Also looked at Yakima, but they would require a custom install, at least for the 2023 X1.
I’ll be getting the OEM rails since they only go on when needed. |

Bought a Thule WingBar Evo rack used. Fit was a little un-nerving because the inside compression point for the bracket to rail connection is at the inside top corner of the rail. Nevertheless the racks seem secure.

£264 and a few pence in the UK direct from BMW parts dept. I have a pair of these as it looked to be a bit hit and miss on other brands as to whether or not they will fit correctly.

You buy roof rails based on capability (weight etc) or how they look...they're a functional item, not an item to 'dress up' the vehicle, no? They're on when you need to use them and off when you don't need to carry stuff....

Has anyone actually used the Thule rack mounts that their website says will fit? The website says 2016- but with the redesign not sure how accurate that will be. I have the Thule crossbars and some racks already or I’d consider the BMW version.

Background is that I had a 2017 Mini Cooper Clubman with roof rails, now replaced with my X1. I had at Thule rack (Wingbar with Rapid Podium and appropriate fit kit) on the Mini and kept it to use on the X1. That fit kit wouldn’t fit the X1, and the Rapid Podium is now discontinued. Was able to find fit kit 4023 on eBay (UK seller) and mating it to my old Rapid Podium parts worked perfectly. The same Wingbar fit as well.

I will go for the Thule Wingbar Evo, since it allows roof box and at least one bike carrier. The edge version and the BMW one have better aesthetics but you will loose useful rail space if needed for multiple items.

The EVO is probably the best looking of the bunch followed by the aero bar IMHO.
The towers are shorter than the bmw or Thule all in one sold for the X1. Could be quieter too, because it's lower to the roof You can see my set up in the Pic section. I have an 1800 ski box and Kuat Rack with the Evo Bar system. With the 127 bar the bike rack and the ski box sit inside the towers. It's a tight fit for my fat bike or MTB, the pedals have to be rotated so the inside one doesn't hit the box. Other than that it's perfect I got the towers and fit kit on Amazon EU . They shipped from Europe and were about half the price of domestic and included 4 lock cores. The code numbers differ a bit from the USA version but it's the same kit. The bars were bought local. It all assembled without issues The old discontinued Aero Bars from my 1st gen X1 were a bit too narrow. New ones 127CM were pricy, and limited as they are no longer produced. The new EVO system is a little easier to use if you mount carriers that use the slotted track. All my stuff clamps the bar so it's about the same as the old one in use.
