Question First iX1 annoyance - changing modes

So, after a couple of days with my new iX1, I've experienced my first annoyance... When changing modes, the screen stays on the 'blank' wallpaper for that mode (e.g. the red wallpaper for Sport mode), rather than just changing modes and reverting back to whatever was on screen before I initiated the change. Is there any way around this?

As an example, let's say I'm using CarPlay with the Apple Maps app on screen. I change modes to Sport, and the red wallpaper remains on screen, rather than reverting back to CarPlay. So I then have to tap the Home icon, then the CarPlay icon. Seems a bit of a faff!

I think that’s somewhat on purpose from BMW as they want you to use their own system instead of CarPlay. That being said, I noticed the same thing when getting a call: it goes to the call screen, but after hanging up, it stays there and doesn’t go back to whatever I was on before. :/

The first thing I hate about it is that pressing the physical button does not toggle through the modes as it should, of course it just brings up the menu and then you have to take the extra step of touching the screen and possibly even scrolling over to select a mode. Needless.

And of course BMW marketing got their hands on these modes, or "experiences", as some sort of gimmick that they think their younger buyers want.

The whole process of changing the modes is so inefficient. If they couldn't add a rocker switch to flip between modes, it would have been nice to be able to do it through the steering wheel controls.

I got quite fed up with the whole process that I now only change modes using voice control. It’s probably not as quick as doing it manually, but definitely more convenient

I made a shortcut for Sport Mode in the pulldown menu. I figure it's a bit more efficient if I'm just touching the screen for two gestures instead of touching the mode button, tapping the screen to select the mode, and then tapping Media to get back to CarPlay.

Does this change the mode without changing the screen?

I just say "Hey, BMW, Apple Car Play" to make the screen go back to displaying CarPlay...

Not only does it take too long, it also pauses the music while it's thinking.

Just press mic button
Say efficient mode - confirms change - screen remains as it was
works for all modes

If you want to go back to home screen
Press mic button
Say main menu - off you go

I've done some experimenting while driving today, and seem to have stuck with the 'Hey BMW' route. Yeah it takes a second or two, but it's easier than having to touch the screen

You can also just hit media when in the my modes screen to go straight to CarPlay if it’s already on

Sport Mode Display Issues

Does anyone else have the issue with Sport mode display where sometimes it displays Vehicle and mileage with the tighter sport mode graphic and other times, it has the tighter graphic but eliminates the mileage and vehicle completely. When this happens and I go back to personal, it has the wider graphic but also eliminates the vehicle and mileage. See the photos. I don't know how to find the mileage when this happens!!

Have you tried toggling through the "gauge cluster setting" if you hit the <*> on the steering controls, that should prompt a menu for a different display for this screen, you can alternate between several different, those are two separate "views"

I had it quite a few times in Personal (normal mode). I've set it to show all the details with consumption, but sometimes it only displays speedometer view, so I set it back via the steering wheel buttons.

if you're talking about how the car randomly resets those settings, then yes i occasionally get them too, but i noticed it really only happens after the system has been reset (back from service) or after I do a hard reboot myself.
