I have a 2024 X1 28i Premium. I see this icon in the upper right of the control display, and the icon is not responsive (ie, clicking it doesn't do anything).

I couldn't find it in the documention.

I have never used the "Hello BMW" only ever tell the car what I want, saves time!

I also believe it means you can say “Hi BMW” without touching any buttons & ask questions or make demands; like “turn on heated seats (if you have them) or navigate to a specific destination”

I am not quite sure this is about voice activation. How did you figure out?

I can see the icon is showing a camera, microphone and an arrow (typically associated with GPS or location).

Could that icon be linked to data privacy settings?

Should be a list of icon definitions in your hardcopy owner's manual or digital version...

There should be a feature that prevents you from starting the vehicle until you've read at least 50% of the owner's manual

There are 190 mentions of the word "icon" and 147 of the word "indicator" in the 499-page user manual linked to my VIN. There are also 47 "icon" mentions in the entertainment/navigation 54-page user manual.

The most relevant section of the user manual should be "Status Information". The other icons that typically show up in that area of the control display are listed here, but not that one.

I checked all of the other mentions and I didn't find the answer.

So please, don't assume I didn't do the research before posting here.

I looked in a 2024 manual and didn't see it anywhere.

It's also hard to tell what the context is with the small area in the picture. Does this icon show up all the time or is it something that shows up in a specific screen, android auto, etc?

Like somebody else said it seems like microphone, sideways camera, and location arrow icon. Does it do anything if you select it?

The icon is always on. Unlike many (all?) of other icons, this one doesn't do anything when I press it.

Yes, I did. I found several threads about unknown icons across various versions of iDrive and car models, but none about this specific ones.

I also did an image search with Google that didn't find anything.

I am not losing my sleep about this, I am just curious.

There’s a “Smart Scan” screen under the Search function in the BMW Guide app, which lets you scan symbols in the vehicle and it looks up their definition. It couldn’t find anything other than the Voice Control (microphone) icon.

I suspect the camera and location/GPS icons are similar to on a smartphone OS that shows you recently used or enabled privacy related features (such as GPS, cameras, microphone). You’re probably right that it’s related to your data privacy selections.

I saw some videos of iDrive 9 on YouTube where the GPS icon is visible in that same place on the status bar, but not the camera icon. I don’t think all 3 icons are grouped to represent one function, they are probably just clustered to save space.

I contacted BMW Genius by email to share a picture of the icon with them. They answered as promised within 2 business days.

The icon is an aggregation of three icons.

The microphone icon indicates the Activation Word for your BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant is active. This means, you can just say your wake word such as, "Hey BMW," without having to press the microphone button on your steering wheel.

The arrow icon indicates that your location services are active.

The camera icon indicates that the remote camera view services through the MyBMW app are active.

Oh man, this whole time I thought you were asking about just the microphone icon. I didn't have an answer because I guess on iDrive 8 we don't have the orange dot on it.

its getting far too complicated to understand all the different icons. they should be self explanatory or simple words !
maybe on a different screen if you needed to see whats happening.
already the instrument cluster is very busy, and a warning goes by almost unnoticed as opposed to once that a red light came on you noticed it immediately.
I barely notice that its low on fuel in the x1 !

Yes. In addition, I have the Driver Assistance Pro options and there are many icons with different colors.

The colors sometimes don't make sense. If you leave your lane, the lane assistant will blink *green* on the dashboard. Why not yellow or, less preferable, red? I don't know.
