X1 cargo capacity luggage test

Includes a comparison to the Mercedes GLB (which is one reason I was considering the GLB over the X1).

On a related note, do you keep your cargo cover/shelf in place or have you removed it? On our old 2014 X1 we had removed it but the jury is still out on this one.

I haven’t remove the cargo cover shelf yet as it (automatically) conveniently holds down my grocery bag handles in those multi-function hooks … and golf season hasn’t started

I leave my cover on 99% of the time unless it needs to be removed if my cargo requires it. Property crime is pretty high in my area, so the less potential thieves can see, less chance of them wanting to break in.

One of our dogs rides in the cargo area a few times a week so we keep the cover off and stored away (as we did in our previous 2015 X1). She's only about 40 lbs but she's got enough room to move around without having too much space to get into trouble.

Too bad you cannot store the cargo cover in the storage compartment under the cargo area floor like the X4

I was holding out hope that either BMW, or an aftermarket company would make a retractable cover at some point. I'm sure someone will eventually, but my lease will probably be over by then.
