Did my first change today at 1300 miles. I will state for the record that I hate, hate that I can't use the mity vac on my late model BMW. And now that they stuck the filter back underneath like it's 1960 makes a bad situation worse.
The ramps work ok, but using them is a little nerve wracking. Oddly, I was able to get up them fairly smoothly, but down was pretty jerky. I've never thought the Transmission on this car was jerky like others report. But backing off smoothly was not on the cards. The instructions were great and everything went fine. It's just messier and more trouble than our other car Last edited by DestinationMoon!; 02-08-2024 at 11:42 PM.. |

Is there a recommended oil that you can buy at a normal store? I used to use mobil 1 0w-20 on my F30. Buying expensive oil on the Internet seems not so great.

Mine also just turned 1300 miles so will probably do mine soon. I think I have those same ramps.
Did you access the oil filter cover from the front or side? Was there any clearance to add jack stands in addition to the ramps? I assume doing an oil change ourselves while under warranty doesn't invalidate the warranty in any way?

I guess that's up to your dealer. I keep a record whenever I do a change. Never had an issue with several cars. If you lease that might be a different story |

Finally got around to changing my oil and filter today at 3380 miles. In addition to the steps above, I used large binder clips to keep the access door flaps open to keep them out of the way. One caution, the drain plug washer was still attached to the housing instead of being removed with the drain plug.
I didn't have a 1/2 drive extension for the 32mm socket so had to run to Autozone before I could remove the oil filter housing. Just had a little trouble getting the filter housing threads started before tightening. I only refilled with the 5 litres (5.28 quarts). More oil came out then I put in so it's probably a little short of full capacity but it's measuring full according to the vehicle info. I'd feel better if we had a dip stick as a backup confirmation to the system reading. Thanks again for trailblazing this for us.
