I agree, on my ICE it does not bother me whatsoever. The only way I could see it might is if I wanted to do a racing start everytime I stop at lights.

I don't find it aggressive at a stop light, but I live in an area with lots of stop signs, and it stops the engine at nearly every single one. Sometimes it turns off the motor before I'm even fully at a stop. It's almost like they programmed it for a mild hybrid but forgot to put in the electric motor

My 3 series, by contrast, does not turn the engine off at all when driven in the same area.

if I forget to deactivate it, it will stop and start at least 2 or 3 times whenever I drive into my garage. kind of silly considering that my garage is only about 20 or 25 feet long.

ASS Disable Process

Can somebody please post a simple step by step process as to how to disable ASS, even for implementation for every journey and then to create short cut

If you read this thread from the beginning there are many helpful posters with steps AND even pictures of how to do this

Post number 15 in this thread shows the process but if id9 it seemingly doesn’t let you create the shortcut.

You're clearly not driving the car as the BMW engineers intended. With ultimate driving machines you're supposed to punch it just as you enter the garage. It's even better if you can coast in around 30-40mph. For me this is tricky because the garage entrance is offset from my driveway. Either way, you need to be going fast enough that you have to slam on the brakes and come to a screeching stop before running into the pile of bicycles and holiday decorations.

In all seriousness though I'm getting used to the auto stop start and don't notice it as often any more. I'm not sure if it's that's just from getting used to it or if the car is more broken in. I'm too lazy to even use a shortcut to turn it off most of the time. I'd still prefer it to be like my other car where it only engages if you are fully on the brake pedal.

In addition to the other methods mentioned on page 1, my dealer also got a message from tech service stating that the engine can be restarted by turning the steering wheel 90 degrees. I tried it tonight and it works left or right and either fast or slow. Still not ideal, but another option.

99% of the time, I just swipe down and hit deactivate whenever I get into the car. Dont' even have to look at the screen any longer. Still annoying, but better than having to deal with auto stop/start. I have a LOT of stop signs in my area. Going to the nearest Taco Bell 1.7 miles away requires stopping at 11 stop signs each way.(actually only 9 on the way back)

I do this also, but it is more of a pain on ID9, because the preset only takes you to the menu and then you have to hit the “Disable Once” button.

I did put "slowest BMW driver ever" below my user name!

(full disclosure: I do use launch control at least once a week because someone said Italian tune-up was great for cars, but only on Saturday/Sunday... only from 0 to 80mph)

People are always fed up of stop start but I now regularly pull the gear selector into low ratio as I come up to an island or junction. This both disables the start stop and the low ratio gives me a vastly improved acceleration from stationary or very low speed. It is very simple then to pull the lever again into drive mode. I don't even need to look at the lever. This method could be used to put your car into the garage and disable the stop start.

On the German models there is no option to disable the ASS. In traffic circles it's really annoying and dangerous. I've gotten into the habit of flipping the gear selector before getting to the circles. I've also considered using Sport mode while driving in the city. I guess I'll have to play with it to see which works better for me.

Yeah, diesel models are mild-hybrid. No ASS disable. It makes me cranky.
