When I back up & there is a vehicle or person(s) directly behind (or entering cameras visible range) I don’t hear any sound alerts even with radio volume very low or off. Any vehicles I’ve previously had made a loud sound alerting of a possible problem.

Perhaps I missed a setting of some sort in the intricate/complicated ID9.

I do hear sound alerts such as a vehicle on either side when turn signal is on.

Anyone else experiencing this issue or have suggestions on what the system needs to be set to in order for sound alert to always work?

I would first check the volume settings that are within the parking assist settings (I'm not sure they can be turned off, bit you should check).

If everything is ok there, then try a first system reboot (hold volume button for 30 seconds).

If the issue is still present, then try holding the volume button for around 70 seconds.

Thanks. I’ll give rebooting a try. I’m fairly certain I set the PDC to the middle several months ago. But back up sound has not been working for either the primary or secondary drivers.

Is it only the sound that is missing? Do you see the obstacles on the camera view (orange or red bars indicating the obstacles)?

Yes — the pair of green & red lines are shown in the rear camera. The camera is great. In every setting. Crystal clear. I’m beginning to wonder if because it’s set to STOP by way of emergency braking if it detects something in its it’s way, that there is no sound unless the vehicle gets very close to it. Could that be the case?

No. I have the same settings and I have the sound as well.

However, I do find that the sound and camera start much too late and are slow to start when coming close to an obstacle.

Brought x1 to dealer today so technician can look at it & determine if backup sound issue is in fact an issue.

What I was told is that many vehicles, other than a BMW, have super sensitive back up sensors or camera integration that produces sound alerts at a far distance when detecting another vehicle or person nearby. But the 2024 x1 rear sound alerts are designed to activat only when obstacles are closer & if needed will apply the brakes to a stop 🛑 if it senses a collision or impact with people is imminent.

Does this senecio sound truthful based on your experience with the new X1’s or other BMW’s you had?

It’s an Unnerving experience when brakes are automatically deployed to a stop 🛑. It’s occurred several times when I back out of my garage. It senses something is very close to the passenger side; that would be the wall or open garage door hardware.

Can the technology be trusted to ALWAYS stop reversing vehicle before giving the driver of the vehicle or me a heart attack?

Is this not set by the “PDC signal volume” (parking distance control)?

Have a look under:
  • Driving Settings
  • Driver Assistance
  • Parking
  • PDC Signal Volume

I thought you could adjust the volume there?

Thanks but the volume is all the way up already. It’s the distance from the obstacle (vehicle/person(s)) in question. The camera does show them but it does not seem to sound the alert as early, or at all, as my other vehicles had/does. Compared to 2014 or 2019 Acura RDX’s or 2010 Mazda 3 hatchback.
