Every time I start the car it's on "Guest ID" and I have to change to my primary BMW ID with the PIN. This is a pain. I believe it started when I had to use my 2nd key fob (misplaced the primary one).
I *believe* I have to link the 2nd fob with my ID in the car. When I use the procedure IN THE MANUAL, one step says to hold the fob next to the key symbol on the steering column. Well, there IS NOT a symbol on the column, anywhere. A manual fail... again. What to do? Maybe I'm off base with my solution. I just need some guidance. Getting this car to do what it says it can do has been extremely frustrating. |

This happened to me when I first got my car. I remember that there was an extra step in iDrive not only to log in, and also pair my fob, and after I did that, it stopped asking me to log in. But I don't recall exactly what it was.
As for the 2nd fob, I had to create a 2nd "dummy" BMW ID to pair that key fob with a 2nd profile |

On the profiles screen when you select and login to your profile, there's a manage profiles or something menu, then you need to select another less obvious menu and once in there, you'll see you can select the 2nd fob to be associated with your profile.

Suggest making an appointment with a BMW Genius & taking both keys to the dealer so they can set it up correctly if you’ve already spent this much time without resolving.

Yes, I find that the car has numerous "less obvious" menus that there is zero documentation for. Like the one to deactivate auto stop/start once, which I never would have found but for this forum.

That's an excellent suggestion. This is my first BMW. I was unaware that the dealer has "geniuses" available but at this point figured it is an essential service function. I describe my BMW to friends as like figuring out a new phone from a new brand, so it's fitting that they have something like Apple's genius bar.
I love my car but oh, the learning curve! |
