Low tread from factory

Hi all

I have a 24 plate x1 and it’s already been back to the garage with a few software issues anyway when it was in at Halliwell Jones they completed a car health check (bearing in mind it only has 500 miles on the clock)

The garage sent me a video saying the tyres are at 5.5mm, I questioned this as from my experience this seems low. Long story short the car has Vredestein ultrac mo tyres fitted from build and haliwell jones are saying this is normal, they have changed their tyre supplier and new tyres come with less tread because they are made with a newer compound.

I find this hard to believe and they are still to prove this to me on any form of professional document from the tyre manufacturer. Before I complain to BMW UK has anyone else seen or heard anything similar?

I thought tyres were typically about 7mm when new.
I just did a quick search and it says 6.1mm for some of those Vredestein tyres.

If so 5.5 is ok imo.

I would ask the dealer what the tread depth it s on a new X1 or email Vredestein.

But I wouldn't let it bother me. Hopefully they will be good for their lifetime, then maybe replace with Michelin's.

I found this link on the vredestein tyres which states between 7 and 9.5mm for new tyres. Don’t know if this will help but it is something to go back to BMW with.

You don’t say what size rim you have but could ut be that your car came in with the wrong rims and, to get the spec you wanted, the dealer just swapped your wheels with another car sitting on their used lot? I don’t know if the original spec can be checked against the VIN (somebody else here might know) but maybe worth a try.
