X1 color: phytonic or portimao blue?
Hi,
New to the forum here, first time poster. I'm looking to retire my 2003 Honda Accord (its dying!) and have been test driving a lot of cars (BMWs, Audis, Mercedes and even Porsche.) I'm looking for a compact luxury SUV and think I've landed on the X1. I tried the X3 too but honestly the X1 seems great to me. I'm torn between phytonic or portimao blue. I tried driving the M Sport edition and dont like how tight the seats are - I do like the exterior though. So either I get the regular X1 with phytonic or do a custom paint job for the portimao (since its usually only an option on the M Sport version.) I think I like the portimao better but it'll cost me a couple of more months on production - not that I'm in a rush. Also, money isn't really an issue as I know the custom job will cost more. I wish I could just get the M Sport package but with the regular seats that give more but I don't think thats a possibility. So which of those colors do you like more on an X1? Thoughts? P.S. I've been driving a silver car for these past 21 years. Last edited by DiscoDude; 05-24-2024 at 08:15 PM.. |

I have Portimao on mine, I tend to favor the brighter more flashy blues. I've gotten tons of compliments on it. I haven't seen an X1 with Phytonic Blue in person, so I can't comment on how it looks.
But, search these threads for the Individual Paint option. Someone posted a link to the visualizer on all the colors available for an Individual paint option on the X1. It'll set you back a few grand, and lengthen your production time, but it's a factory paint job and will carry the manufacturer warranty. Plus, you'll be amazed at how many blue options are available!

Portimao Blue. my mom has Pythonic for her 5 series and imo it's more of a "classic" color for BMW. I j got my Portimao blue last Saturday and I've gotten so many compliments on the coloring.

I am almost completely satisfied with the M Sport seats. I have an early production model, so lumbar support was not an available option at that time. On longer drives, my back gets fatigued without the adjustable lumbar support. Other than that, they're great. For reference, I'm 6'0" tall and 170ish pounds, so on the slimmer side. My torso just barely makes contact with the side bolsters on both sides, but on curvier roads and spirited driving they absolutely hold me in the seat.

Unfortunately the dealership I went to only had black, silver and white versions of almost all their colors. They are bringing in a phytonic for me to look at. |

My father still drives his 1992 Honda Accord with 217,000 miles on original engine/transmission... bought it new and I still remember going with him to pick it up back when I was in high school. It still runs great. I learned to drive in that car. The only major $1000+ repairs it had for the last 30 years were a failed moonroof and a water pump, which caused some other part to fail as a result. 6 sets of tires(plus 2 sets of winter tires) It has been serviced by the same selling Honda dealer since day 1. (yes, I know... I know...)
As for the X1, I personally prefer the Blue Bay Lagoon. I'm biased because that's the color I have. |

Me, personally, I can't justify spending for individual paint on a car like this; and if I was, I'd do it for a color that's not otherwise available. I vote Phytonic. Why not split the difference and get Blue Bay Lagoon?

I’d say the same, if you are going to go for a custom colour Marina blue or the blue on the X3 competition that looks great, but not a variant of the same model, waste of money.

I have the M Sport seats and love them, being 100 lbs I need more support and the seats hug me and keeps me in position.
I felt the M seats were ugly w no detachable/adjustable headrest. |

Also Portimao is an absolutely beautiful electric/deeper shade of blue. Phytonic somewhat less so. I actually kinda wish my M2 was Portimao instead of Long Beach. I get lots of comments on the color of my X1. Reminds me a lot of my Nassau Blue Metallic 'Vette's color back in '99.

my BMW salesman said I was his biggest customer. He meant literally. 6-foot-5 and 300 pounds. He was really surprised that I actually felt very comfortable in the sport seat of the X1. I was 327 pounds right after xmas, but managed to shed 27 pounds off as of last week. |
