Realistic MPG
With about 1300 total miles on my 2024 x1 28i I just completed my 1st long drive. The 345 miles were mostly highway diving between 55-68 mph. After filling up with 9.317 gallons I calculated the actual MPG to be 37.03 on the 345 trip. The X1 stated (calculated) 40.1, so I’m guessing it’s a bit more optimistic than the true #.
Either way I’m impressed with the mileage as it’s way above the mfr.’s 28 overall or 34 highway mileage published claims. Impressive #’s for a 241 hp engine with an automatic transmission. |

After initially using “Sport” mode for awhile I began to keep it in “Personal” not “Sport” mode & deactivate the engine Stop/Go each time I drive. I find the transmission is not as jerky using this setting & the steering is firm enough for my taste.
While there is a bit of delay when I step down in peddle hard, I guess I’m used to the hesitation that many turbos have because I don’t feel the x1 is any worse that my 2019 Acura RDX I drive. I can’t say with certainty that the DCT is causing a further time delay but it might be. In Personal mode it’s far less jerky than in Sport & it does not stay in low gear as long nor downshift as much. I’m not an aggressive driver so Personal works for me most of the time. I’ll switch to Sport sometimes when I’m on a twisty road when I want steering to be more weighted. (if they had a setting adjustment to adjust steering while in Personal, I’d probably do that instead. |

this is what I recorded during a recent trip. I was the only one in the car. Luggage weighed about 60 pounds. A case of 20 bottled water plus munchies(not sure of the total weight). Weather clear all the way. Temperature was warm. Drove most of the way in the middle of the night, so little or no traffic.
topped off gas at Costco in Louisville. 0 miles arrived at Costco in Ann Arbor. 391 miles topped off gas tank. 9.71 gallons average: 40.26mpg on the return trip 4 days later: topped off at Costco in Ann Arbor(same one). 0 miles arrived at Shell gas station in Louisville. 408 miles topped off gas tank. 10.27 gallons average: 39.73mpg 40.26mpg plus 39.73mpg... divided by 2, so about 39.995mpg |

I had a chance to examine my MPG on a trip last weekend. I topped off the tank in central Wisconsin. Did a small amount of local driving, then drove back to Chicago burbs, about 200 miles. The car told me "since last fill up" I was making 36.5mpg.
Unlike above, I am somewhat aggressive of a driver, and it's not unusual for MOST drivers to be going in the 80mph+ zone (speed limit is 70 on I-39 and I-90 on the sections I was using.) For my return trip, I exclusively used Efficient mode. Pleasant weather. I did make one stop to pick up food on my way home. Oh, and the trunk was full of assorted stuff. Like FULL, full. (We have to bring back trash/recycling from the rural cabin if we don't make it to the local dump during our stay.) |

don't you mean 90mph+ zone? I always try to drive 80mph just to keep up with traffic because I think it's safer to travel at close to the same speed as everybody else, assuming they are driving safely and not weaving or passing like idiots. That's kind of hard to do around Chicago because so many drivers doing 90mph or more.
