Has anyone had their X1’s spec’d with the blue or red brake calipers? This option seems new as I didn’t see this when I had my car ordered. They look so much better than the standard calipers. Feel a bit annoyed I didn’t get this option, and it’s even free. Could these be avaible as an after market Mod? I have MSport Spec 23d.

I am a bit confused by this option as the BMW UK configurator does allow you to spec the blue versions (if you have at least 19-inch wheels and the M Sport trim) for free, just not the red ones (which come as part of the M Sport Pro pack at extra cost).

I did try to add the blue ones to my 23i M Sport order a few weeks back, but my dealer said I couldn’t have them without also adding the M Sport Pro pack. Strangely, I had also previously asked about the blue brakes, on the BMW configurator chat facility, and they seemed to think they were free but not different to the standard ones except for their colour. Obviously, that is not how they look in the configurator.

All very confusing, so I am watching the question with interest.

When I ordered my 23i M Sport back in March, I ordered it with the Pro pack. At that time, the brake caliper colour was standard silver. Now I am told, they will be red when the car arrives which is due anytime now. Would have preferred blue had I been given the option but that wasn't possible.

I have been looking at getting a space saver spare wheel (will not fit under boot floor but will be in a bag in the boot) but the BMW supplied one for the X1 is 17" (which fits cars fitted with 20" wheels) however, my dealer thinks these new coloured calipers may be bigger than the silver ones and so is going to ensure the 17" space saver will fit before ordering.

These brakes are NOT free. They can only be selected when adding the M Sport Pro Package. They are priced as “0” because they come as a package deal and cannot be added without the additional package.

As far as I’m aware, these brakes cannot be retrofitted, unfortunately. At least not according to BMW. Which doesn’t make any sense to me. That being said, I’m sure if you buy the brake discs, calipers and pads, and any other parts needed, some third party can retrofit them for you

Yes, this seems to be the case (it is what I understood when BMW first announced them) but I think the UK online configuration allows you to select the blue brakes without also selecting the M Sport Pro Package. I assume it is just a bug in their configurator?

Check that no other options are added on when selecting the blue brakes. And check the price of the configuration before and after adding the blue brakes. I would assume this would change.

You have to select the standard M Sport trim level and the 19 inch wheels before it will allow you to select the blue brakes but with these selected the price remains unchanged when you add the blue brakes. If you try to add the brakes without the larger wheels then it insists that you add them but doesn't change the price beyond the cost of the added wheels.

Here is a link to the UK configurator with just these two options selected:

https://configure.bmw.co.uk/en_GB/co...T1,S09T2,S0ZS9

If you then toggle the blue brakes on and off the price remains unchanged. It is strange but I think it is just a bug in the configurator - unless I am missing something ?

I don't have the M35i. Mine is the standard xDrive28i with regular brakes.

However, I actually love the shiny silver metal color brake calipers. Not sure why is so shiny. I've never had a car with brake calipers that are shiny. I thought it would change to a dark black or grey color by now, but after 8 months, the front calipers are still shiny.

Very strange. I would say it’s a bug, as this doesn’t work on the Austrian, German, or Dutch website. What’s interesting though is that the option to switch to the blue brakes the M Sport Pro package is not possible in the UK but is possible in Austria and Germany (at least for the iX1!)

I’m sure if the disc is the same size then it should be possible for a retro fit if BMW decide to the sell the parts. Really wish they had this option available when I configured my car.

You can buy the parts online or directly via bmw.

Unfortunately, the parts number for the disk brakes are different for the two variants. Although, that doesn’t necessarily mean different size discs.

I also wish they had these when I bought mine

I’m waiting until spring in hope that more information becomes available. If the M Sport disc brakes can be retrofitted, I’ll go ahead and get them installed.

If the discs are different size, you’ll most likely need new caliper carriers as well.

I was gutted when the M Sport brakes became available after i had placed my order 12/22 asked my dealer at the time of placing my order if the M Sport brakes were available or becoming available but he said no, not that he is aware of. 9 months later they were added to the UK configurator. Nonetheless i had mine painted when it went in for its ceramic coating.

Saw this in a iX2 manufacturing video on YouTube. Looks like the rear calipers.

So I’m thinking of trading my M235 GC for a 2024 X1 2.8, and I will be needing a set of winter tires….it seems, according to bmw.ca , that if I go with the red or blue calipers, I can’t fit 18” wheels over them. Can anyone confirm this?

I had the same issues. I hate red calipers so I had ordered with blue. Then I was informed that with the Pro pack I could only get red. Then all of a sudden the composites became available. Thankfully I just made the cutoff so I was able to get them. Very stupid and annoying process.
