Has anyone ever been to Costa Rica?

We are planning a trip later this year and I need feedback...thanks in advance.

Looking at Matapalo...supposedly the beaches are unbelievable and Airbnb's I'm looking at are either right on the beach or in the rain forest.

- Is it worth going here or do you have a different recommendation? As far as I understand, we will have to rent a car from San Jose INTL Airport and drive 5 hours. Is this safe? I'm unfamiliar with crime there.

- I know we need an ATV to get around once we're there...is it easy to rent those?

Beyond that, I'm reading that there's tons of restaurants and even supermarkets so it's not completely secluded.

I stayed near the Liberia airport north of Coco before covid. We had a rental car and drove back and forth the neighboring towns as far south as Tamarindo. We felt very safe and had no issues.

Wfe and i just took our two boys to Costa Rica in March. We stayed in the Guanacasta area, flew into Liberia and stayed at an all-inclusive about 30 minutes north of Tamarindo. If we go back we would rent our own car and Air BnB. Based on our experience driving around there and talking with some locals i would feel completely safe roaming the country. The people there are incredible and truly care about the environment. It's so different than the US which was refreshing to see.

Looking to go in July or August. Is that a good time to go? Is the Northwest/Pacific Coast the best area for highest chance of dry weather? Costco Travel is offering some Guanacaste resorts for about $4,500 for 2 people including flights (not all-inclusive).

I booked the W Costa Rica in that area in October. Paying a little bit more but it's the largest suite they have with a plunge pool on the balcony.

Check AMEX travel packages if you have that card...their packages are significantly less expensive than anywhere else you will look if you bundled airfare + hotel

What’s the link to look? Is it Amex Travel? I have the Platinum card.

Edit: found it. $5,400 for 8 nights for 2 including flights from Cali.
