My windows sticker shows 5AT preparation, so I can subscribe to Driving Assistance Plus. The prices range from $20 for one month to $650 for lifetime subscription. |

The Driving Assist Plus package cost me $500 so I included it just for the distance control. I was surprised to learn that it also keeps me in the lane by controlling steering.
I was using cruise control the other day and noticed it was a struggle to change lanes. At first, I thought it was lane assist of sorts or an issue. But eventually figured out that it was keeping me in lane. It was a bit scary to let it turn automatically on the curves. I'm happy with it so far. Maybe I should've gotten the Pro 🤔 |

I have the automatic lane change turned off on my X1. It a feature I would not be comfortable using. I’ve had assisted cruise control in my Acura RDX for several years & remember how surprised I was when I began to use it. PS as cool as the automatic steering is, I’m not sure I would use it on Route 1 / the Pacific Highway in California. 😅🫣 |

It also will not change lanes if there isn’t enough space in the next lane (you can see if a lane change assist is possible via an indicator on the instrument cluster). So it would never do it if there isn’t enough space and it requires you to actively tell it to change lanes. |

I would not know if you’re missing something. I’ve never used the lane change feature. I do recall that the function has “safety” built into the design & will only move into another lane when it’s safe to do so. With all that said, I’m not comfortable using it.

Not really relevant to DAP but, some days ago in an intersection there was a car about to enter my road from the right and another opposite traffic car was coming in my left side. The system obviously misinterpreted the situation as a possible accident with the car on the right, and interfered with the steering wheel by turning slightly to the left, causing a nearly mishap with the car on my left. I was so surprised. Not a DAP function, but I was curious what automation is this causing the wheel to turn. You have to have BOTH hands on steering wheel to correct for these situations.

For those having problems activating, I was able to activate mine finally (zero help from dealer or support BTW) by changing the email address and creating a fresh connected drive account. Something with my other account, perhaps other cars, were keeping it from working.
Maybe give that a shot if you’re having trouble. Like the functionality so far. However one kind of dangerous behavior I noticed is when the system is braking for you and you press the brake to “take over” the brakes actually release for a second while you return the brake to the brake pressure the assisted driving had. Its a bit unsettling, I wish it was additive. Other than that its pretty nice for long drives! |
