2023 X1 - Climate System Failure
I've searched posts and haven't found this yet. Has anyone else experienced a failure with the climate control system in warmer temps? On 4 different occasions when I have turned on the car when the temp is over 70 degrees, the climate system fails to turn on, meaning no air coming out of the vents at all.
More details on what I have experienced so far: I took it into the local BMW dealership after the first 2 times and everything worked and looked great according to their diagnostics (of course ). I took a risk and drove it to Northern California this past weekend where temps got over 100 all weekend. The climate system failed to work 2x after being parked in shade. I was just driving a short distance on local roads, so I rolled down my windows to get there. Interestingly both times after I left it in the sun and heat for 30-45 minutes at my destination, it then worked fine. I tried to pre-condition the car before departure but that also failed on me intermittently. If I tried to immediately pre-condition after turning off the car (when the climate control was not working), I got a message "Function Not Currently Available". The planned departure time also did not always kick off for the time the pre-conditioning was set for. It also appeared that the outdoor temperature gauge was not accurate at times. For instance it once showed 70 degrees on the reading in the car but my weather app showed current temps of 85 degrees outside. I'm trying to collect as much data as possible to share back with the dealership to help pinpoint what might be causing this. TLDR; my climate control system on 2023 X1 is intermittently not working in warmer temperatures and my BMW dealership service dept says everything looks fine. |

There are other posts where people have found similar.
What the issue is, no idea. In the EU the temps can reach the same but not see a post where people have had the same issue seems to be working as normal even in 34-40degC temperatures. We have a PHEV EV/ICE car and when the temperatures got to 34 last year it was excellent no issues on any days, others seem to show the same. Why some have issues though and it isnt' making it like a fridge, no idea. A logic failure in the software maybe, but as you mention it can work fine and cool the car so it does work, just not always which is weird. |

Could it be some sort of thermostat related issue - if its intermittent and also the anomaly with car temperature reading v ambient temp. Plus it failing in the shade then suddenly works in the sun.
Almost as if the car thinks it's much colder than it actually is. |

That was my thought as well - inconsistency between temperature sensors. The only thing is that no air flow comes out - hot or cold, even when I change the settings on the UI. It's not a matter of is it cooling appropriately but that the climate system is completely "off" on the backend.
Thanks for your replies - if and when I get to the bottom of this I will update here in case anyone else runs into this. |

To close the loop on this one - I took the vehicle back into BMW and they were finally able to recreate the issue I was experiencing (no fault codes were been thrown) and they said they have fixed it. The explanation I was given was a faulty resistor. Hopefully this helps anyone that may experience a similar issue. Also hope they will add a fault code in for this one going forward so it's easier to detect!
