Also not available new anymore.

Shame too, that was a great car for Kia. They were the hot shit car when they came out, then just got cancelled for who knows why.

They are so freaking nice inside. Materials and build quality blow away BMW and others. They just don't have any powertrains that compete at the top level. But if you're looking at a B58 powered BMW, the Genesis is just.... Better as a luxury vehicle. Definitely not as sporty though.

Maybe other Genesis models are better, but the G70's materials and fit and finish definitely do not blow away BMW (or Audi for that matter) in this segment. They are good, but absolutely nothing special.

Admittedly, I didn't spend much time in G70, but the GV80 was like, a class above all the Germans. It was like, nearly Bentley level materials. Frankly, it makes my X5 look and feel like a cheap POS.

That said, the Genesis vehicles are also too "ornate" to me. More of a statement of luxury than just focused on being good. So while the Genesis interior looks and feels higher end than the X5, that's not really a good thing to me. I prefer a more subdued style with nice materials and good build.

I think I'm down to the S5 and a M340 xdrive. I would probably be kicking myself if I go with a 330.

Owned both, can't go wrong with either. The S5 Sportback is so versatile being a hatch. It would be a great companion to your M2.

I have a really really hard time believing it's anything close to a Bentley after just checking out a bunch of Bentleys. Their new stuff is pretty crazy nice. I appreciate the crazy interiors but the driving dynamics were not for me.

Think Bentley minus the crazy expensive that adds nothing stuff.

Like they're obviously not hand stitching everything. Theyre not picking one giant hide, circling imperfections, and using a single hide per car. They're not ensuring that all the wood comes from the same tree, and that they're hand stained and polished by the same person at the same time to make sure they're all identical.

Where Bentleys are all about the craftsmanship, Genesis cars replace that with the perfection of modern processes. A lot of Bentley owners get off on the deviations, those show craftsmanship and that a human craftsman did the work. You don't get that with Genesis, they're about robotic perfection.

The GV80 I drove was closer to a Bentley than it was a MB/Audi/BMW. It was like a Lexus turned up to 15, with that same crazy attention to perfection.

These are in no particular order.

1) BMW 330i xdrive
2) Volvo S60 recharge
3) Audi S5 Sportback
4) Golf R
I had a 2022 BMW 230i and a 2024 BMW 230ix for my daily use. Both were great cars. Just recently sold the 230ix as I decided to manage with just one car, my 2023 M2. (I traded in the 2022 230i when I bought the M2.)

For a daily driver I think a 330ix would be a good choice. In part based on the fact there is a good BMW dealer in my area.

I have no experience/knowledge of Volvo or Audi vehicles.

As for VW...I did own a 2002 VW Golf TDi for my daily and it was a nice car. (Bought it new in March 2002.) I put nearly 150K miles on the car. (Sold it to a private buyer in early 2007.) But the VW dealer servicing was horrible. Consistently horrible. And horrible at various different dealers I had the car into for service over the years.

Do you work for/adjacent to Genesis? Ive seen you preach the praise a few times and wonder the basis for your opinion. I have actually had my head turned a few times by them and they are getting weirdly popular in Orlando. Thanks in advance.

Nope, I work in a totally unrelated field. Was just really impressed when we looked at them. Not enough to buy one. Truthfully, the biggest issue was GV80 was too small for us, we needed something like Palisade sized. They decided to screw up their shot however and made the GV90 3 row EV only.

They're pretty popular here on the space coast. They're priced pretty well, have a crazy good warranty, and are really nice. They don't stack up to the performance of a high end BMW... But if you're buying an X5 40i, a GV80 is probably better. They just don't have anything to compete at the M50/M60i level or above.

Just chiming in as my father's 2014 VW CC has surpassed 160,000 miles purchased since new with only one severe carbon cleaning but has otherwise held up better than I expected it to. COVID switched offices for him and he does something like a 75 mile roundtrip commute now. Has told me he will work as long as they allow before forcing him into retirement. Neither of my parents are ready to commit to an EV but I may try to persuade them given his long commute.

This is a wide list to narrow down.

- 2026 Audi A5 - I don't hate the new exterior but screens galore and I don't think it retains the same tautness of the current A5 Sportback. A good upgrade from the current and soon to be defunct A4 tho.

- 2025 A5 Sportback - Sleek & taut but showing its age. We also have a facelifted Q5 so the interiors are identical (could be a plus or negative)

- A6 - Cushy cruiser but also borderline too expensive for what he needs if going for the V6 55 trim IMO. Too staid.

- 5 series - Yuck

- LCI2 3 series - I actually thought the 330e was a great compromise for him since part of his commute is just stop and go in the city. Alas seems to be discontinued but probs could find a new 2024 or lightly used 330e.

- 4 Grancoupe - Not as sleek as A5 Sportback but would keep in the consideration pile.

- i4 - They hate Tesla/Elon Musk so the only EV I could see them in.

- IS350 - Ole reliable, but horrid gas mileage in stop and go. Weird AWD transfer case hump in driver footwell.

- Camry Hybrid - Excellent for commuting but they would want something a bit more bespoke than the north american uber.

- ES hybrid - Curious as to what Lexus will do with the next gen. ES given the Camry's heavy refresh. A higher output hybrid with an eAWD could work well for them.

- S60 - Nothing to do with Chinese ownership but think the overstressed engines + heavy reliance on electronics/touchscreens are a long-term disaster.

Golf R for me & I am also in your area. AWD FTW IMO. Maybe an Elantra N? I know FWD, but should be fun. I'd at least go drive one.

I am done swapping wheels for winter all the time

I want to replace the CX-5 with a RSQ8 lol

Why would I get an Elantra N when I have a Type R?

Save $20k? Doesn't Elantra N offer an auto? I dunno, I'm grasping at straws here, there isn't really a good reason to buy an Elantra N if you have a CTR, Elantra N is the cheaper imitation CTR. Not that being that is a bad thing, but yeah.

Yes I see what you mean. I want to go awd for a daily and have good service. Having a loaner car and not sitting at a dealership is important to me. So that also probably eliminates a golf R too.

I'm probably down for another BMW or Audi. The S4, S5 seem pretty dated compared to the 3 series though.

My BMW dealer is real hit or miss with loaners. I usually have to call and schedule 3 weeks out for a loaner. Not a big deal for water in the side marker, but a bigger deal if your car is out of commission. I have extra cars too, so that helps.

I know our Audi dealer does loaners because they have huge stickers on the back glass. My buddy with a Lexus was blown away by all this, firstly by having to bring a car in for issues, and second by loaner issues. He can pop in for an oil change and they'll give him a loaner to go grab lunch. He's currently internally debating on the super nice ownership experience of a Lexus vs the fact that their competition is objectively "better".
