With the carrying bag it pushes in on the well tray at the latch side, adds another inch to diameter. It will go in there, but eventually could deform the well tray. The bag is pretty thick. I lay the bag on top of the spare in case i need a mat to work on while changing tire i guess.

Yes. He bought it from ModernSpare. Fits like a glove underneath.

I don’t consider the mobility kit as adequate for a flat. Too many times my flat was more than just a nail puncture or in the shoulder. Fix a Flat doesn’t work in those conditions. Other models have spares. There is a place to put one. Offer it and charge me.

Hello all,
New member here from the UK. I hope it's OK to resurrect/add to this post, as I haven't been able to find the answer to a question I have, regarding the ModernSpare spacesaver for the X1. (The shipping to the UK makes it cost prohibitive). I have been looking at various options this side of the water. My main hurdle seems to be finding a suitable option with the correct diameter to match the 245/40x20's fitted, which have a 'new' diameter of 27.7" as going too far away from this won't do the differentials and transfer case any favours, which to me is an important consideration on any '4WD' vehicle. The 'BMW spare' which is 135/80x17 is obviously a non starter at 25.5" and won't clear the M-Sport brakes anyway. As I see it, I have three size options. 145/85x18 @ 27.7" (as per ModernSpare), 155/70x19 @ 27.5" and at a pinch, 145/80x18 @ 27.13. I base these on the fact that the 245's, will vary from 27.71 new to say 27.2" pretty worn out. The mid size 155/70x19 would be my favoured choice, but not a readily available option as a new spare. One company over here similar to MS is Road Hero, but they only list an option with the 145/80x18, which as I inferred above is possibly a tad too small @ 27.1". So, I'm looking at options atm. Mercedes did a spare some years back with the above 19" size, but in steel and the wheel ET seems to be ET35, plus, I don't know if they will clear the X1 M-Sport brakes. The X1 BMW spare is I believe ET18 on the 135. Does anyone know what the ET is on the ModernSpare option, or have any Intel on the Mercedes steel option, other than it requiring different type wheel bolts. A bit of a long (first post) I know, but I felt it difficult to pose the questions, without showing that I have at least already put some effort and homework into trying to find a solution. Many Thanks all. Last edited by DaveMc; 09-08-2024 at 07:03 PM.. |

Modern Spare for sale
Hi, I am looking to sell a new Modern Spare kit that I ordered for my 2024 X1 m35i. Buyer would need to arrange pickup in Columbia, SC, but I am willing to sell the kit at a heavily reduced price. The kit fits nicely in the area underneath the cargo lid, but I no longer need a spare. I've opted to trade the X1 for another vehicle. Contact me if interested.
