when you're driving around in the Canada and the US, how often do you see another X1 that has the optional M-Sport package exterior? (the 28i, not m35i)

I've had my X1 28i with M-Sport for a long time. I see other X1 28i on the streets quite often, at least a few times a week, but all are with the X Line trim.

This morning was the very first time that I saw another 28i with M-Sport exterior. It was a black one with very large all-black wheels(aftermarket?). Tennessee license plate and a large sticker on the back window for one of the two presidential candidates. It also had what looked like Thule all-black roof racks. Maybe the owner is also here on this forum?

Same here. But there’s not a lot of new X1s around where I live.

I still don't see many U11 X1s in my area. But I'd say the M-Sports are about 10% of the X1s I see.

I don't know if this is a good thing or bad thing, but I often get asked by strangers... "how do you like your new M35i?" I really can't figure this one out. If someone knows BMW enough to know what a "M35i" is, how can he not tell the difference between a 28i with M Sport exterior from a real M35i?

There was just one guy in a new Audi A7 who thought I was mistaken. He insisted that I was driving a M35i. I had to point to the xdrive28i badge on the back before he admitted that he was wrong.

These days, I just respond with "not sure, this is a rental" or "don't know, this is my wife's car" and be on my way. Saves time.

I've seen maybe 2 M Sports driving around and the only M35 I've seen so far has been one someone posted on FB Marketplace looking for someone to take over their lease.

I have never seen an X1 of any configuration where I live. They cannot be common in my area …whether xline or m sport.

In Germany it's the complete opposite. As far as the Germans are concerned if it's not an M-Sport it's not a real BMW. Of course our roads are better and we're allowed to drive faster, "as fast as the car can safely drive" in some areas. So, that is surely part of the reason.

I wouldn't buy an X1 M-Sport if I were driving in Joliet, Illinois anyway. The roads there and almost everywhere else in America are awful. Think I would have a Caddy instead.

There's currently a major transition to Automatic Transmissions in Germany but I am still surprised BMW doesn't offer an Manual gearbox in most of their cars here anymore.

interesting that you brought up Joliet. the area has so many carjackings and it's not safe to drive BMW or any German cars there. not just the average carjackings, but violent ones. they even target pregnant female drivers.

as a matter of fact, Joliet just received over 2 million Dollars from the state, specifically to help the police combat carjacking.

the area was actually nice back when I lived in Illinois.(in a Chicago suburb)

That must have been a long time ago because when I graduated from Morris HS in 2001 it was a shithole, at least most of it.

oh.. you kids... I was talking about the 1980s.(1980 to 1985, to be exact)

it was also not that long ago(at least not to me) when Oakland and Chicago were relatively nice and safe. My uncle used to live in Oakland and the neighborhood was nice. The yards were well manicured and most of the time he didn't even have to lock the door. He got out of there 20 years ago when things went down the toilet.

I guess I also see one every morning as well! My parking spot at the office is directly in front of a row of windows with mirror tint. I can see myself in the car. The guy in that X1 M Sport looks very young and handsome... must be some kind of trick mirror tint?

My wife will have hers in December, hopefully. I’ve never seen one in my daily commutes.

I have the M Sport package but I would say that most X1s I see are XLine. Normally I don't really like XLine but on the X1 it looks good.

M Sport looks better for most colours, IMO. That is not true for Cape York Green. That colour definitely looks better in XLine.

In Los Angeles I've seen 2 non-MSport U11s in the past year and 1 M35i but, otherwise, X3s and X5s rule the roost here. U11s very rare here it seems.

I'm thinking of an X1 purchase and have driven several non M Sport with what I consider very comfortable seats. I test drove the M sport and did not like the bolsters under the thighs that seemed to dig into my legs. Any complaints on your end? The only reason why I would buy M sport (In Colorado) is for the paddle shifters since on the Non M sport you can't control the gears manually. Thus far it's the only reason I have not purchased an X1. Wish BMW would change that and offer Paddles even as an option.
