I am one week into taking delivery (at long last) of a brand new 07/2024 X1 25e M-Sport model after having 2 F48 models before. I’ve just noticed that there’s a very off window glass mismatch on the rear quarter windows.
![]() The LHS has what looks like the electric heating strands on the glass like the rear window and the RHS is just clear glass. I couldn’t get a good photo because of reflection. Is this a manufacturing fault? Why would the glass in these windows be different. Has anyone else spotted this on their car? Mine is a UK RHD model. I’m going to go back to dealer and see what they say. Also none of the rear window glass is tinted. The previous F48 models had this across the range. Is this another BMW cost cut and an extra now or has the manufacturing fault extended to the tint as well. Be great to hear experiences. |

just a couple of lines or a lot of lines like the rear glass heating elements?
maybe it's the antenna like in the old BMW E46 touring rear window glass? or the other one in the diagram below? |

Do you guys in the UK and Europe realize how lucky you are?
So many options are available to you over there. I'll gladly pay for a no-tint option so I can have clear window glass all around. ![]() We here in the colonies don't have the freedom when it comes to options on BMW vehicles. Before anybody chimes in. Yes, I do realize that BMW is much cheaper here in the US. ![]() |

I can now answer my own question.
The U11’s do all have mismatched rear quarter window glass. One side only will have heating elements in the glass like the rear heated window. The side that this will be on depends on LHD or RHD version. It will always be on the passenger side and defrosts the window for vision when parking and looking towards rear from the drivers seat. Seems logical but a little odd that both windows not the same. |
