Got The M35 yesterday

So picked up the new car yesterday, love it. So drove it home was playing music thru Android auto. Went for a quick ride to the grocery store, wife always needs something. Got back into the car and both screens was frozen, could not change modes, could change content nothing. So tried again later in the night same thing screen still frozen.
So I did a software reboot this morning, hold the volume knob down for 30 seconds, so now everything is fine so far. This never happened in my Mercedes. Very strange. First thought was that the battery was low maybe they didn't charge it at the port in Brunswick. Nope the voltage measured a healthy 12.7 volts. I bought a 2021 MB S580 and the first full day I had it also had screens issues, it wound up to be a bad battery after 3 trips to the dealership. I had to convince the SA that 12.3 volts was not a fully charged lithium battery, even if it sits in the rear of car.

So picking up the car I measured the tire pressure on 19 inch wheels all tire pressures were set at 35psi, read the door recommended pressures and they said 33 psi. So in the car today, asked for the tire pressure and the screen said to run 36 for the fronts and 35 for the rears. Is that what people are running? Or something else.

I love the car, but not a good start out of the gate.

Also both my Mercedes have much more choices on screens layouts. The BMW is kind of behind on that.

What SW version is the car? Depending on version you might want to search here or google as their are many comments for you to review. Best of luck with the new car.

As you are a new owner of the M35, I have a few questions, if you don't mind.

I am going to look at an X1 M35 today for my next car, but I am reading not-so-great stuff about it, mostly related to the idrive issues. I am currently driving my 6th 3 series but am contemplating moving to an SUV. I am ok with the X3 30, I guess, but am worried that I won't be happy with how it drives compared to my 330. I figure the X1 M35 would be a better, more spirited drive while also being the SUV platform I am wanting to try. There are no X3 30s around here to try, and they aren't coming until early November I am told. I don't want to even sniff the X3 M50 as that would be more than I'd be willing to pay, even though I'm sure it will be awesome.

1) Did you compare the X1 to an X3 (I suppose the previous gen) in terms of interior size? Or better yet, have you had any experience with a newer 3 series sedan and how that would compare interior-wise to the X1? I am perfectly happy with the interior of my 330 but am getting weary of climbing down in and up out of the thing due to a recurring back issue.

2) Your issue with the freezing screen - have you found that to be an Android Auto -related thing, or in general with the BMW idrive? I've not read a lot of great stuff about this version of idrive. I am bummed I will lose my idrive wheel/knob and have to go 100% touch screen, but I can adapt.

3) Is the ride overly harsh? I have the M Sport stuff and big wheels on my 330, along with the dreaded RFTs, and its a bit cranky on our often-crappy roads in Ohio. I know that's the price for the BMW experience, but I hope the X1 won't be any more harsh.

Appreciate your insight.

I just got my X1 M35i yesterday, and the air was all over the place: 46, 43, 46, 49. I released some air and it's all around 38. I will get them to 33-35 eventually. Initially, the system said recommended is 33.1 but on one trip, it said recommend 36 front and 35 rear. It's back to normal recommendation of 33.1

Drove about 5 times with Android Auto (no longer than 20 minutes) and my screens hasn't froze yet, knock on wood.

I didn't test drive the car, but all the reviews scared me. I can say the stop/start isn't bad, and I've always had it disabled with a tune in my previous cars. Car has a lot of pep in personal mode. Can't wait till break in period ends, seems like it will be a fun car.

I can give some insight here as i compared both (and then got a x3 loaner for the last month). They are not THAT far off in size interior wise as you would think. One of the appealing aspects of the new X1 is how well it uses its space / wheelbase. That said, with a rear facing seat, there's a good 2-3 more inches of leg room with the prior Gen x3 versus the X1. Also you get a bit more trunk space with the X3, albeit not ATON more. Conversely, the X1 has a really handy under tray storage the X3 doesn't.
Overall dimensions are larger in the x3 so its harder to navigate versus the X1, but if you're used to the wheelbase and length of a 330, its not that much different.

The iDrive issues seem to be slowly getting fixed it seems.. but others, such as the terrible auto-start / stop wont likely get fixed as the real issue there is having a dual clutch that needs to engage after the motor turns on. I thought i liked the older iDrive better until i get a X3 rental and actually missed some aspects of i9, including the maps which are very better.. so its not all bad.

As someone who is almost certainly selling my M35 in the next few months, i do want to say its not a terrible car. The size/motor are great. The interior quality is great, especially for the price, and i like how nimble it is. My primary driver for selling is size as i underestimated how much space a rear facing seat could take, and i straight hate the auto-start stop.

Thank you, that is very helpful. My car seat days are over (and paying for college x 2 has just begun) so that particular item is not a concern.

The start/stop thing is troubling. Literally the FIRST thing I do when I get in my 330 is turn that nonsense off. I get the point of it, but even as its relatively quick to react in my car I dislike it very much, can't imagine not being able to defeat it...that sucks.

You can defeat it in this car as well you just have to turn it off every single time you turn the car on. Our ire here is it it won't stay permanently off.

Yes the start/stop function is frustrating. I just hit my modes and or the sport setting in my wifes X1M35i. I guess its no different to me then hitting the m1 button upon start up of my f85 x5m opens the exhaust valves . I am use to the extra step. We have had our X1M35i for 3 months just needed a new battery first month in other then that its been great so far.

This has been discussed Ad nauseam, on the forums, as the U11 X1's are equipped with inferior entry-level hardware running newer more-demanding modern software and is plagued with issues...many have complained about frozen screens (a safety issue), sudden resets of settings, audio bugs, laggy operation, dropped calls, etc. It has driven many to try to get BMW to buy the cars back. I've also complained to BMW Customer Support and, at this point, I feel like they must be very aware.

No I didn't compare the X1 and X3. The 2025 X3 has new curved screen and other updates. Lots of 2024 X3 on the lot with the screen that looks like it's stuck in the dashboard. Also liked the M35 because of the lot (little) more zip than the base X3. Funny you asked because when the longshore man strike started I thought my would be stuck at the port and the wife and I did talk about moving to a 2025 X3 base version. The M50 was out of our (wife's) budget. I'm glad the wife told me to stick with M35. We already have a 24 MB GLE 53 so wanted a small suv that would be peppy. Easy to get in and out of for sure. The sports seat add a minute hump You may to get over on the side bolster. The M35 is fine for space If really need to carry anything large I'll use the MB GLE but the size of the M35 is fine.

The freezing screen only happened that one day. After a reset it has worked fine. The touch screen is ok I mean you can always use voice commands if needed. I do not like the turn off the start/stop everytime I start the car. PIA. Also it has no manual with car, which is strange to me. Yeah I understand about saving money, but my 24 MB came with one. Makes great bathroom reading. And I don't like going to google to explain everything. No digital card and no locking lug nuts geez this is almost a $60k car. I did setup the phone to open/start car.

The ride is a little stiffer compared to my 2023 MB GLA 250, but very acceptable overall. I live in SWFL where roads are fairly flat and no bumps only railroad tracks. After reading all the comments here I expected it to be harsher actually which was not the case. And the shocks are not filled with cement.

No I have never owned a BMW this is my first. Had Porsches for a while then went to MB but BMW provides more options than the MB.
Also like the first 3 years of maintenance for free. But it's really just for oil changes most likely. I didn't like the way the finance person tried a hard sell on buying a maintenance plans, I told him don't waste his time but he continued anyways. It's his job ok. He keep telling me how I should have a maintenance plan because BMW require it. I was going to say I bought because of the reliability of the vehicle.

-My X1 came with a manual and a digital key card. Key card is really only useful for emergencies anyway, the fob or phone are so much more convenient. You can also download the app that has the manual in electronic format for handy reference if needed, free of charge.

- Free maintenance only covers scheduled items like oil changes, cabin filters, and such. Consumable items like brake pads or wiper blades are not covered, though they used to be 10 years ago.

Where did you find the Digital Key Card? My salesman said if it wasn't on the sticker it's not included. My sticker said "BMW Digital Key plus with UWB" is that it?

Yeah I knew the 3 year free maintenance only covered oil changes and cabin filter, more than other manufacturers like MB or Audi.

The phone is certainly more convenient but make sure it's fully charged. The only problem with the phone is that when you walk by your car in garage and are getting in the our other car, lights go on in the BMW. I was surprised in had that kind of range.

If I remember correctly, the key card was in the jacket of the owners manual, which was in the spare tire compartment when I took delivery. BUT, mine is an early ‘23 model, so I’m not sure if they stopped including them currently.

Nope no card nor an owner's manual in the spare tire location. I had looked when I got the car at the dealership. Only the air pump and fluid if I get a flat.

Sounds like you need to plan on getting back to your dealer & get what they should have given you in the first place.
There’s no excuse for them not checking to be certain it was in YOUR vehicle when you picked it up.

I did talk to the salesman the next day. No manual and no Digital card. The digital card is not listed on the MSRP. I have the "BMW digital key plus with UWB" or ultra wide band which is the phone connection. I miss the hard copy of manual great bath room reading. Like I said about the tire pressures, the door says one thing the car screen says something else.

Have you tried the sun visors to see if the card is up there, it has happened to myself and others that the card was in the ticket holder. Like FlashMonkey says I don’t know whether the supply of them has been stopped.

You should've definitely got a digital card. My salesman presented it to me and I only got one option in my car (shadowline). I'm not sure if I got a manual. I threw everything that came with the car into a pile. Yup, the recommended tire pressures changed to 36/35 recommended on my last trip again. I'm confused.

I did check the sun visors, which BTW seem small.

BimmerB when did you buy your car? I got just about every option except that Professional Driving assistance and the Sport Professional Package which require 20 inch wheels and I wanted the 19inch for a "smoother ride". I'll ask him again.
