Upgrading from a Subaru Impreza
Hello,
I have a test drive set for next weekend. Looking at the 2024 X1. Coming from a 2017 Subaru Impreza hatchback. Curious about the size difference. I’ve seen videos showing the back seats are a bit tight. We have a 6 year old in a booster seat. He would sit behind the passenger seat and currently fits great in the Subaru. Would anyone have experience with a child seat in the X1? I know wait for the the test drive and seeing the car in person. So far I’ve only really seen the outside and haven’t had a chance to really play around. Just excited to see and drive. A little backstory, we were able to drive an X7 rental and fell in love with it. Much different than an X1 but such a nice ride. Thank you for your time. |

My days of child seats are gone and I am in the "do we have enough leg room for the enormous 6'2" teen" phase.
But, and others would be better to explain with practical experience, my understanding from watching every video on the x1 M35i that exists, is that the only issue comes from installing backwards-facing seats if the driver, or front passenger needs the front seat to be at or near its full-back position. I'm sure this can be confirmed or denied by someone who actually uses a car seat. |

booster seats will fit just fine.
also... the following are the questions that I asked myself before ordering the new X1 two years ago: (1) do I really need the X1 for the extra room? (2) how about the BMW "hatchback" 430i Gran Coupe fit just as much stuff 99% of the time? (at just a little more money) (3) do I need to carry backseat passengers and are they usually 6-foot or more? (4) which drives better as a daily driver? (X1 or 430i Gran Coupe) also easier to park in tiny short parking space at work? |

One of the reason I will not be buying another X1 is rear legroom. My brothers are both around 6ft 2" and the only way they can get in the car at the same time is to push the front seat fully forward for the rear passenger to get in and then move it back before the front passenger gets in. Absolute pain. Previous car was a VW Tiguan, didn't have this problem.
Child seats may well fit fine but if you need decent leg room, look at a bigger car - perhaps X3? |

I saw an article in the local paper (online) that said since the interest rates began increasing & parts for vehicles have become in short supply, the fastest growing vehicle category are those between $20-30k. This comes at the sacrifice of vehicles in the $45-50k range. Largely because monthly payments (lease or payments with interest) have increased to $800+ & even those that can afford it don’t want to carry the burden. Also, many who had been paying high monthly & are looking for a replacement are looking to lower their expenses. As an example they mentioned that Chevy truck sales have slipped & their “Trax” sales in 2024 so far this year are up nearly 140%.
The article further stated that many are downsizing from larger SUV’s. This has left many dealers with many more unsold larger vehicles they may be willing to make a better deal on. Just thought I’d share this info. |

Thank you so much for the replies. Very much appreciative of the constructive feedback.
I was looking for something similar to the Impreza, not really a fan of bigger cars/SUVs (came from a Nissan Sentra before) Being 6'3" comfort is #1. Don't plan on having many other people besides my wife and son but in those cases where we would have additional people their comfort would be just as important. The X3 doesn't look much bigger but sounds more comfortable all around. Certainly going to check that out, along with non-SUV sized BMWs. Thank you again for all the insight. |

not to mention the new '25 4-series Gran Coupe got a boatload of new updates. at least check it out at the dealer. I was about to get the new X3 until I saw it in person and was totally turned off by the looks. |
