I havent taken delivery of X1 yet so I cant confirm this- but I have been searching for info since I have our X3 coded to start in sport (mainly to disable ASS) ... found section on pg 130 of 2025 X1 owners manual that says "Some My Modes can be set as the start mode." Someone wanna check this out:

1. Press the My Modes button on the
center console.
2. Select the desired mode.
3. Select the settings icon.
4. "Start mode"
5. Select the desired mode.

EDIT - sorry OP, just read opening post (should've done that 1st) and I see where you noted only personal or expressive. Perhaps one of these modes can be tailored to your pref. For I am hoping that is something resembling sport

please don't take this the wrong way, but I am puzzled as to why anyone buying a BMW will want to save on gasoline? the saving is minimal, compared to the reduction in fun.

if the roads and traffic condition in my area allow it, I will probably keep it in sport mode 99% of the time.

I typically average 40+ mpg on the thruway/highway in Personal or Sport Modes. While Adaptive Cruise Control is activated. That is way better by far than any vehicle I’ve ever had. Come to think of it, it’s similar to a motorcycle I had several decades ago. 😂

Why even offer Economic Mode?

Enjoy the RIDE

Because the earth is on fire? Y dogs are better than people. And smarter than many too

From what I can tell, besides throttle mapping, the x1 will only freewheel down hills in eco mode

my wife's previous (to the iX1) was the M140i. easy to code default start as sports mode (or ecopro or whatever it was), using Bimmercode. bring back the old days!

Old days are gone, looks like. The cars are too locked down now electronically.

Efficient mode also puts the vehicle into neutral when you take your foot off the gas. With Personal mode you get engine braking when you take your foot off the gas.

So it helps with mileage in that way.

Efficient mode is not one of the selectable modes.

Only Personal Mode or any of the extra modes you get with Digital Premium can be selected.

When I contacted BMW, I was told that efficient mode could only be selected as default on vehicles delivered from the factory with 07/2024.

I'm pretty pissed about that...

This being said, I have yet to read of someone being able to set efficient mode as default, even on recently delivered cars.

Anyone?

Not happy

All this looks like more and more BMW working towards their devoted users move to another brand. I have the 02 2024 model and seems that many options will not be available.
