Auto-dimming headlight issue
The auto-dimming headlight feature is not working on my 2023 x1. The symbol is illuminated on the screen, but the lights are not switching to bright. It is not an intermittent problem, the system is not working at all. Is there another setting I am missing or is this a software/control module failure?

In addition to what’s been mentioned above the auto hi beams, here are certain conditions that have to be met before the auto hi beams activate. It takes into account things like speed, traffic conditions & sunlight.

have you ever been able to adjust the sensitivity of the auto high beam assistant? then owner's manual says to push the light stalk forward for 10 or 20(?) seconds to switch to more sensitive. however, I have never been able to do that. I wonder if that's a country-specific setting? I tried it on a couple of X1 loaners as well and also couldn't make it work.

I’m in Long Island in New York. I’ve not changed the sensitivity setting on be X1. It’s at the factory setting. They have come on many times like when driving on to a dark entrance or exit ramp of a expressway/thruway. As well as dark roads when I’m the only vehicle around. I’ve seen them turn off & back on when a vehicle was coming towards me.
I do recall the manual stating what you mentioned. And I remember setting my 19 Acura RDX’s sensitivity +1 over standard when I got it 6 years ago. Last edited by markronnie; 10-26-2024 at 01:29 PM.. |

I'm going to have to check this out--they definitely come on when I'm in my neighborhood, but I may be driving 32-35 mph at the time. It's hard to test in "residential" areas near me, because most have street lighting which may throw off triggering the auto hi beam.

I pushed the light stalk forward for 10 seconds as directed. A pop-up message said "reduced sensitivity" or something like that. Does that mean the auto high beam will not turn off as much? Also, I assume that when the engine is turned off and restarted again, this setting goes back to the factory default at normal sensitivity? (but can't confirm that either way) Whoever wrote BMW's owner's manual deserve to share a cubicle writing manuals with Andy Richter at Pickering Industries. |

I tested this morning on my way to work at the end of DST here in the US. Hi-beams kicked on and no one was behind me, and 2-3 times I slowed down and they shut off each time at 20mph.
