Hi all, I am hoping for some info and feedback on TPMS sensors, as these are an item I have no previous experience with. I've searched this forum and although these are mentioned, there isn't much detail in there.
My UK '24' X1 came with 20" 872M wheels and tyres. For winter and to protect the 'diamond turned' finish from the salt, I've got some 19" 871M black finished wheels on their way to replace them, which I plan on fitting All-season tyres to. My question is regarding the tpms sensors.
Does anyone know the correct BMW part number for these?
Has anyone fitted aftermarket ones? How have you found them? Any failures with these, batteries or lost signals etc.
I am under the impression that the 'new' sensors can be fitted to my 'new to me' wheels and the car will 'self learn them'. Is this an incorrect assumption?

When I got my aftermarket BBS wheels fitted, I bought a set of OEM TPMS sensors from the dealer and had my friend install them before mounting the tires. The car will search for the signal and self learn them, however if deviating from the size your car came with you may have to manually enter the new tire sizes (which you can do through iDrive). They've been perfect and zero errors. I just gave the dealer my VIN # and they pulled up the correct TPMS part numbers.

While I am sure you have this covered, on a related point, it is advisable to inform your insurance company (certainly if you are in the UK) if you use a different tyre or wheel size than originally supplied on the car. I know this sounds silly, especially as winters tyres are safer in cold weather and the proposed wheel size is one that BMW makes for the car (I assume). I used to be on a VW Tiguan forum and there seems to be a mixed bag of reactions by insurers to winter tyres and wheel size changes. Some don't care, some wanted to know about the changes only, others wanted an additional premium and I believe at least one example where the insurer declined to insure the vehicle.

Worth a phone call just to check (assuming you haven't done this already) as you do not want to give them any excuse not to pay out.
