What I do really like about it:
HP & Torque (only 30 HP less than my Acura RDX that weights about 500 lbs. more)
Turing Radius (very tight)
Steering feel
Ride quality- although stiff, I expected that would be so with the handling being so GOOD & its wheel base
Navigation & Map (has many features my other vehicles don’t have)
Brakes (stops faster & feels better than any of my prior vehicles)
MPG- (Highway mileage in mud 40’s)
Fuel tank distance. (Have gotten +500 miles on a tank on thruway)
Looks of X Line
It’s Not a CVT transmission
All 4 tires are the same size so they can all be rotated & are NOT run flats.

Overall, I REALLY like it and nothing will change that, but I have the following to add.
I generally feel the same about the above, but would add the following which on the whole have been discussed elsewhere before.
Biggest gripes:-
Hate the engine Stop/Start. With just a ICE, the lag between throttle input at a junction and actually moving is a genuine hazard to life! Should be able to permanently disable it, to be able to re-enable it if/when appropriate. It should also not re-enable when changing 'driving mode' on the fly.
'M' suspension way too harsh on speedbumps and any potholes over say 3/4" deep. I have to slow way more than any other vehicle I have driven to avoid the 'thump' that sounds like the front suspension is completely bottoming out. I am living with it, but feel at the price point, it shouldn't be like this.
No spare as standard, but I have sorted that with a new scissor jack and a spare from an old Merc S class.

Love the semi autonomous CC. Makes driving on the motorways (highways) dead easy, although I would like to be able to 'tune it a bit' as it obviously works on fixed parameters, rather than anticipating road conditions.
Obviously compared to my other DD, which is a diesel and very subjective, I find it a little thirsty in traffic/tootling about, but on a run, it absolutely exceeds my expectations. I recently did a road trip from the UK to southern Spain and back and on one stint, being very careful (boring) using the adaptive CC and slipstreaming HGV's, over a nearly 200m drive, I averaged 56mpg at 56mph. On a 300bhp petrol (gas) ICE car, this is fantastic and actually better than my 'other' diesel DD.
Overall very pleased with my purchase and the best looking car in its class. (IMO).

The ASS didn’t bother me at all since I got into the routine to always disable it as I’ve always done on my 6 year old 19 Acura RDX advance. Granted it only takes 1 button to disengage rather than X1’s 3 steps. I’m use to it from day one.
Though after reading within this forum that the ASS had been updated during the last 7/2024.40 update that I was able to install in early October, I noticed it working much better than I recall back in January 2024. I activated it recently & I found it was not shutting the engine off as it approached a full stop unless applying pressure on the peddle. I noticed that as you applied brakes & lifted up slightly on the peddle just as you came to a full stop; the engine did turn off. BIG difference as compared to earlier in the year.

PS no automotive manufacturer is allowed or will ever provide a means to permanently turn ASS off. It will heighten their MPG’s they report to the Government. Mfr’s don’t want that to happen for many reasons.

Last Point: with todays quick paced technology, their are always going to be systems that have issues that drive users crazy. Satisfaction will only come if the mfr. stays open & honest with it’s customers to resolve them expeditiously & to insure they don’t roll out a system that’s a LEMON. That said, in my opinion BMW needs to be much more open than they have been about the issues & resolve them more quickly than it’s done with their new ID9.

We had a merc b class and passengers in front and rear both complained of being car sick, which they had never done in all our previous cars going back to a ford anglia! i didnt like the air noise or vague steering so we got rid of it.
The x1 is nice to drive but i dont love it like my previous saabs. The software and attention to detail is a major disappointment, there are so many little things that over cars ive had have been missed off or take too many clicks to achieve if they have been included.
I am pleased it with it and it is better than the competition in the areas that are most important to me but it could be so much better with just a bit more thought.

Surprised no one listed the lack of paddle shifters on a nonsport X1 in the States, or the inability to downshift manually with the toggle on the 7-speed transmission. That is the main reason I passed on it.

I had this on prior cars and rarely used it -- only in the snow. Manually shifting an auto transmission doesn't feel "sporty" to me at all. YMMV

With my X1 being my 9th BMW I have got to say it's one of the best with a couple of provisos. Now 2 years old and 18,000 miles ticked over this week it still feels good. Great driving position and comfortable seats, with power/acceleration available when needed along with decent fuel economy helped by the mild hybrid system. Tech has been reliable too - OS8. So big thumbs up, although not in black!

The provisos - 1. the number of recalls has been ridiculous - 4 (includes 2 for the IBS) in total is 4 more than any other BMW I've had. 2. the stupid lid for the centre arm rest opens the wrong way for a RHD car!

Would I have another one? Probably. I tend to renew every 3 years and currently looking at the options including going electric. My current model is a Premier MSport and has a good level of kit. To spec the same costs almost £14,000 more for an iX1 which is a big barrier to going electric (I know there are huge deals for buying electric though), plus there are other better specced (kit and electric range, etc) cars out there.

But to answer the question, I really like my X1.

I really like the car, but it hasn't been a great ownership for me. Current problem of the car losing wifi/internet connection (coupled with loss of functioning of some of the cars apps) and requiring a complete dealer software reset, has now occurred 4 times since the beginning of October and the car goes in again to the dealer tomorrow (it's only 10 months old with under 4k miles) for the same fault. Looking at my legal rights but am considering asking the dealer to make me an offer to buy the car back (I have no finance) if they cannot find the fault this time (resetting the software is dealing with the symptoms and not the underlying cause which I suspect is the head-unit, the e-sim unit or a combination of them both).

Unfortunately, this has put me off the X1 which otherwise looks and drives beautifully. The only way I'd otherwise improve it would be to add a footrest to the right of the accelerator pedal for when the car is in cruise control mode.

I am worried that my experience has put me off not only the X1 but perhaps BMW altogether. Hopefully, they find the fault this time and I fall back in love with the car - time will tell.

I had the previous generation and I switched to an X1 23d in 2022.
Honestly the quality of the previous one was way better.
The main advantages of the new one is better fuel consumption and the new OS and the digital screens.
The main disadvantage is the car seems very unreliable; I went through several recalls and last week the car broke down completely after 33000 Km.

I'm borrowing Tom's response as my introduction. I've been driving for 25 years and it's my favorite car! This is also just my first 2 weeks of driving and we're still on our honeymoon. I traded in my 2022 X4 m40i for this. All I wanted was a condensed version of my X4, and that's pretty much what I got.

I'll say though that it handles much better, it's tight and connected, stays flat through the corners and the steering responds instantly without any slop whatsoever. The X2 does ride a little harsher, but it's not obvious that it does so. It's just not quite as forgiving over imperfections in the road. I'm also riding on Michelin CrossClimate winter tires, they were put on at the dealership before I drove it at all. Anyway, not sure how much to blame the tires. It honestly feels just as fast as my X4, and I've not even gone WOT or above 4500 rpm during break-in. It's a little torque monster.

It's so quiet inside, so comfortable. The materials and trim feel upgraded from my '22 X4. I really love the minimalist center console and dash.

I'm really head over heels about the size. I'm single, 2 small dogs, no kids. My X4 was too big. This feels personal and "fun size". It's kinda like a go kart 😂. The rear cargo space is plenty for me. I did haul 4 tires home from the dealer without a problem!

iDrive9 is a big upgrade over 8. It's super quick and responsive to navigate.

I disabled start/stop with an add-on wired tuner. Having that function MURDERED the driveability of the car.

pretty subjective question, all depends on a lot of factors, final sales price, trim, model, location of vehicle.

I have an m35i and all in all, I just like the car, I wouldn't say I really like. It drives well, has some quirks that I hate, sits at an awkward height but it does what i need it to. Wish the gas mileage was slightly better, given the m40i gets better gas mileage than this on 2 additional cylinders (which is what stopped me from getting it in the first place based on stated mpg), and would love if it were 2" lower to the ground like an actual Crossover vehicle, but otherwise it satisfies what i need in a vehicle at this time.

I agree with someone above that I do prefer iDrive 9 now to iDrive 8 when its working properly, I just wish that this model included the knob/wheel as other models still have it. It is a much more fluid/native OS to work through than iD 8. There are still tons of times where it freezes and has isssues, but at this point I've just learned to live with it, I have bigger fish to fry now.
