Alexa? Why use it in car?

We have Alexa at home, use it for all sorts of things including scheduling lights, reminders, count down timers, etc. Handy to use in the house.

However, I see the ability to use Alexa in my new X1's app screen. Can anyone brief me on its capability? If I start the app, will the car now reply to "Alexa....". For instance, I'm pulling into my driveway and say "Alexa, turn on the porch light". Is that how Alexa can be used in the car? I also use Alexa for routine google things, like "Alexa, when was James Wood born?". Is that how it works? Once loaded/activated will Alexa always be on? I usually don't say "Hey BWM" to talk to the car, I just do a quick press of the Voice button. I assume for Alexa I would just say her name, and for Android Auto, IF I decide to use it, I talk with a long press on the Voice button?

There is SO much to learn with this 2025 car even though we have a 2022 330e; the infotainment system is very, very different! Better in many ways, but we're learning slowly but surely.

short answer -yes, everything you just outlined - its does most of what home version does with some limitations like it wont make announcement or drop in
you can chose if you want have it listen for wake word or just press (same for whichever personal assistants you decide use)

Thanks. The only use I can think of right now is to have Alexa turn on a light, or give myself a reminder like: "Alexa, remind me at 6PM to turn on the dishwasher". Are those possible? I'd plan on saying "Alexa" as opposed to pushing the voice button (which I push to talk to my car).

yes you should be able to that no problem ~ again most things you could do with your home version. On the opposite end, can set up the My BMW skill in Alexa and then you can tell her to ventilate or precondition your car, which if you have remote start will also start the vehicle. If you do this and want to be silly you can tell Alexa while sitting in your car to start your car - stupid I know, but had to try just to see if it would.
