Anyone remember the proper gap for a 1965 VW Bug?

Per John Muir's book, it should be 0.016".

Interesting how toolboxes these days don't have feeler gauges, timing lights, or dwell meters.....

I erroneously thought that Briggs and Sratton used points until just a few years ago. It turns out they moved to electonic ignition back in the '80s. That timeframe still doesn't qualify for anything but the edge of the lawn, but it still counts. Sorry for the mistake.

I used to set timing by ear when I didn't have access to a timing light. I'll never know how far off I was or how much extra gasoline I was using. I would never recommend that approach to anyone.

I did so many tune ups one summer. I worked at a gas station across the street from a church. I get commission for selling oil and a small amount for tune ups. I'd make up fliers and put them on the cars in the church parking lot offering to change oil or give a tune up while they were in church. It was huge it with parishioners. My mom was a member and she heard that I was doing this. She said to me, "I'll never have to worry about you making a living if you have this kind passion for what you do." Her words always stuck with me.

No worries but the part number must have been good or it wouldn't have come up when you Googled it.

And the edge of the lawn is still on the lawn.

Indeed.

I love how this thread has allowed us to be proud of being older. We've earned our spot on the lawn.

...When You Remember When the Kidney Grilles Were Small Enough to Actually Look Like Kidneys

The new grilles? They look like the car's holding its breath in a wind tunnel.

You should sue the writers of "Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage," because this is the plot from episode 6 that just aired last month.....
