TPMS and winter wheels

I am planning to get aftermarket wheels for my winter tires. Local shop say that they can program the wheels with aftermarket TPMS sensors.

Do you guys have any experience with that? Do I have to pay attention to something besides initializing the system for the tyre type change? Do they work without any intervention or programming from the OBD port? I know that they have to be 433hz.

Also do I have to keep the same wheels on the same side everytime in order not to confuse the sensory system of the car? I have no idea how it works thats why I am asking.

As long as the TPM’s operate on the same Hz, there should not be any problems.
I got a set of wheels/winter tires for my Acura a few years ago & they linked up within a mile of driving. I went back & forth between the 2 sets yearly & both synchronized each time I swapped them.

I talked to my chap in Nov when I got my winters put on with some aftermarket TPMS. They don't require any specical programming as long as they are compatible. At least on iDrive 9, it then lets you switch between your winter and summer wheels with a single click which is kinda neat!

There's no OBD programming required.

Hi guys,
Just not to open another threat for only one question.

My car has 20" BMW Individual rims with Conti 6Q MO 245/40 R20. I am 100000% sure that they were never changed as this is the first winter for this car (it was manufactured in may 2024) so no need for winter tires.

But my BMW APP reports Continental Winter Contact TS860S 245/45 R19 and recommends a different pressure.

Any ideas how this info is generated ? From where ? Sensors are "dumb" , they have no idea about tires

You go to the pressure monitor indication in the car, and switch from auto recognition to manual, then select the tire you have from there, then finish initialization by driving

Thank you,
Another question about wheels...

In my documents I have 3 sizes:

205/60 R18
245/45 R19
245/40 R20 - which are installed.

I was looking for winter wheels and I found a bunch of 225/55 R18 but according to their specifications they are NOT compatible with MPA (whatever MPA means). 17" are not compatible with 03M2 (which is M Sport in glossy red).

Also there are a bunch of good wheels for previous F48. I can but 4 wheels (with sensors and everything) at a price of one original 19" rim but again, according to BMW they are not compatible.

For example 245/45 R19 is 8Jx19 ET46. Those that I've found are 8Jx19 ET47. Same PCD, same bore (they are from F48).
BMW insist that they will not work on my car and I have to buy ET46

So what is MPA and why I cannot use 225/55 R18 but I can use 205/60 R18.

The only MPA reference I can find is M Performance Automobiles.

Hi team, Another question.
My car has Continental 6Q MO * 245/40R20. Are they RFT ? In ETK they appear "without emergency something" and my car lacks of compressor or seal.

Can I trust them as "run flats" or should I buy new ones ?

Thank you

It should say Runflat or RFT on the sidewalls if they are. Bear in mind that many tyres are available in both RFT and non- versions these days, so you can’t just tell from the tyre brand and model.

Awesome! Not even ContiSeal. I was ready to invest 3000 euro in winter wheels but I think I will put an additional 1400 on summer tires (((((
I'm not comfortable to run them since I don't have that "compressor + seal" kit that used to be in old cars without RFT.

Are you sure yours didn’t come with a compressor and seal kit? I thought all X1s did. Have you looked under the floor hatch in the boot?

All right! Just hanged the phone with my local dealer and he said the 2VC was "stolen" during transportation from Germany. He ordered the part and I will receive it free (as it's part of standard equipment).

Thanks for pointing that out!

Back with my "coasting" question. So it seems that the car doesn't coast because:
it has 20" 245/40 R20 summer (Continental) which needed to be 2.7bar
it sees 19" 245/45 R19 winter (Continental TS860) which needed to be 2.4bar.

I tried to set them to "auto". I've set them manually 245/40R20 but the car insists it has winter 245/45 R19

I tried to lower the actual tires to 2.4 front and 2.2 rear (as indicated) but it's clear to the naked eye that something is wrong. BMW states 32psi / 2.2bar for all 4 on X1.... mine is diesel, it has 1.7 tons and it cannot run on 2.2.

Any ideas ?
