And it turns out that Valtteri 💪💪💪

Autosport calculated that at the moment he is the only Mercedes driver who has made it to the third qualifying segment at every Grand Prix.

Sounds great, of course, but how many Mercedes drivers were there in the era of three qualifying segments?

- Rosberg
- Schumacher
- Hamilton
- Bottas
- Russell
And now Antonelli. Kimi lost in his first Grand Prix 😊

Elsewhere there were many posts explaining their views that "no one cares about the manufacturers championship". I'd just like to point out that there was a time in F1 that fans really embraced the teams they followed and rooted for...and that the teams and their owners not only took great pride in winning that prize, it's why they existed. Like so many things today, it's sad to see what the new F1 fan has evidently morphed into. The attached photos show a late Lotus Europa S2 with its plaque proudly showing the marques WCC's and a grainy photo of my TR4A with its wheels painted yellow to match Team Lotus' colors...LOL, I did this to go to the '68 USGP (Lotus placed 2nd).

Russell is also looking a little more like an accountant than a racing driver, LOL.
"The Austrian [Toto Wolff] has recalled the day he was first impressed by Russell – when he was wearing a business suit rather than a race suit.
“I’ve had his contract since he was 15 years old,” Wolff told Sky Germany. “He notified me via e-mail that he was in need of advice, told me he had previously won the British karting championship and just become British Formula 4 champion.
“He came to my office, all alone in a black suit with a black tie – it must have been his communion suit because it was a bit tight – and a PowerPoint presentation. In this presentation, he listed every reason why he could be a successful Mercedes driver in the future.
“He also had a question. He wanted to race with Carlin in Formula 3 and asked if it was a no-go for me because they used Volkswagen engines. I told him ‘no, that’s fine, if you want to race with Carlin, go ahead’. And he has been under contract with Mercedes ever since.”
Wolff gave more details about the PowerPoint presentation.
“It was well made, although he was a bit nervous,” he elaborated. “He also looked a little more like an accountant than a racing driver.
“First was his resume along with his previous experiences. Then a page with his strengths, followed by one with his weaknesses, followed by how he wants to continue working on his weaknesses.
“He also had a career road-map laid out, with his end goal being to drive for the Mercedes Formula 1 team. So he had it all planned out in his head back then already.”"

Sometimes a car manufacturer gives a nod or hat tip to an F1 car (obviously for PR commercial reasons).

In the early 90s, the Renault Clio Williams happened to be quite a popular zippy car (147ps).

Back in those days Renault powered the WilliamsF1 F1 team (supplying the RS5 67° V10 engine producing at least 760-780 bhp (570–580 kW) for the Williams FW15C F1 car). Williams had nothing to do with the design or engineering of this car. The hallmark gold-colored alloys and Sports Blue body color seemed to be a reference to the yellow and blue accents of the F1 car.

"The Williams FW15C is a Formula One car designed by Adrian Newey and built by Williams Grand Prix Engineering for use in the 1993 Formula One World Championship.
As the car that won both the Drivers' and Constructors' Championships in the last season before the FIA banned electronic driver aids, the FW15C (along with its racing predecessor FW14B) was, in 2005, considered to be one of the most technologically sophisticated Formula One cars of all time, incorporating anti-lock brakes, traction control, active suspension, and a semi-automatic and fully-automatic gearbox."

Maybe someday BMW will finally show the E34 M5 Touring unicorn powered by the S70/2 (6.1-liter V12 McLaren engine).

It exists.
"There's a secret BMW E34 M5 Wagon with a McLaren F1 engine in it
July 9, 2019
Before the mighty 6.1-liter V-12 developed for the McLaren F1 made its way to the supercar, it was proven in a peculiar prototype vehicle: a BMW E34 M5 wagon.
BMW built and tested a one-off M5 wagon prototype with the 6.1-liter V-12, and BMW still has the car, too. The Collecting Cars podcast, which "Top Gear" presenter Chris Harris hosts, spoke with David Clark last month, who was director of McLaren road and race cars from 1994-1998. He revealed the story of the BMW M5 wagon as the test vehicle for the massive V-12 and said he's also driven the car.
"It's an outrageous thing," Clark said of the V-12-powered M5 wagon. We can only imagine, but a 627 horsepower M5 wagon with 479 pound-feet of torque sounds marvelous. Although those aren't gobsmaking numbers by today's standards, recall that the M5 made 311 hp at the time and 266 lb-ft of torque.
Clark added the M5 wagon prototype still resides at BMW as part of a secret collection of prototypes. However, the public has never seen the car. Perhaps with Clark's comments out in the open, BMW will be more open about showing the incredible car off.
Although Clark has nothing but love for the 6.1-liter V-12 and the F1 itself, the program, he said, was not a cash cow. In fact, he was ordered to find a way out of the engine deal with BMW after the F1's launch. BMW was supposed to supply 350 engines, but McLaren only built 106 cars.
Today, there's nothing quite like the F1, but that will soon change. Gordon Murray, the instrumental design figure behind the F1, plans to introduce a successor the beloved supercar. The supercar will house a V-12 and even a manual transmission. Murray said the car is the last chance for companies to build something in the spirit of the original F1 as emissions and regulations start to squeeze more traditional supercars out of production."

"McLaren shoehorned the F1's V12 into a BMW M5 wagon test mule
July 9, 2019
Automakers are known to utilize preexisting vehicles as test beds for major research and development purposes. But some of the zombie mashups produced in-house can result in pretty interesting combinations. Case in point, when McLaren was developing its BMW-sourced naturally-aspirated 6.1-liter V12 for the legendary F1, the company put the engine in … a BMW M5 wagon? Yup, you read that correctly.
It’s no mystery that the legendary F1 came with a BMW-sourced V12. That “M70” V12 originated from its placement in the E32 7 Series and E31 8 Series “50” models in the 1980s up through the 1990s. The version that went into the F1, however, is more closely related to the M-tuned “S70” V12 found in the E31 850CSI, which was the pseudo M-variant to the 8 Series that wasn’t officially designated an M model. But it did feature full-fledged tuning from the M Division.
On “Top Gear” presenter Chris Harris’ podcast, “Collecting Cars”, Harris interviewed David Clark, the former director of McLaren’s cars for both the road and motorsports between 1994 and 1998. Clark revealed that they took an E34 BMW M5 wagon and shoehorned the S70 V12 into its engine bay as the mule for testing the F1’s engine. Clark even said he drove the car himself as they were fine-tuning the V12’s engine output.
You’re probably wondering, how the heck did that thing fit? But it isn’t that surprising. The E34 5-Series was designed to house either the BMW’s venerable straight-six or the new-at-the-time V8. And there was room enough to house the V12 as well, particularly since BMW’s V12 was essentially two of its “M20” straight-sixes bolted together at the crank in a vee.
When Clark was testing the S70 V12 in the wagon, he and his team ended up with the 627 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque the F1 became known for. That’s nearly twice the power the production M5's 311 hp and 266 lb-ft at the time.
Clark also divulged that the actual prototype mule still exists, but it’s in BMW’s secret collection of prototypes, and it’s never been revealed to the public. He does, however, hope that one day, BMW will open its doors and show off the incredible mashup of an automobile.
Until then, you’ll have to rely on the few custom engine swaps done by owners to get a taste of what a V12-powered E34 M5 is like.
Rumor also has it that McLaren could be working on a new direct F1 successor with help once again from Gordon Murray. According to what we last heard, there's a chance that the new model could come with a V12 and a manual transmission, similar to the original."
