Yeah, let us know how your session goes. I am planning on going either Wednesday or Thursday to the range for a few to hit some. So we will see if that happens! Spring time house projects will be getting in the way. lol
I try to play at least every other week, but it varies. Sometimes I might play 3x in a week. Other times once a month.

Lately I've been hitting the simulator range 2x a week for the last few months. Trying to get more consistent feel. I hit my first HIO on the sim a few weeks ago, 8i from 170y out. My short irons have some pretty solid grouping and I can hit the green about 70% of the time from about 180-190y and in, but past that it falls apart. My most strokes lost are off the tee - I lost 3 balls this last weekend and still shot an 85.

I do have some average numbers for my clubs thanks to the sim data...

Latest driver session had me at around 170 avg ball speed, ~2500 backspin, ~400 side spin, 7.4 launch angle, 288y carry, ~314 total.

That isn't bad at all. I would love to play 2-3 times per week but that isn't in the cards right now. My company golf league starts 4/23 so I have been getting ready for that.

Wow! Congrats on the HIO! How did that feel?

I feel like I am the complete opposite to you. I can hit a drive pretty damn good, but then my approach shot to hit onto the green..it's no where to be found. Instead of being on in 2, I am on in 4. Pretty discouraging!

Something happened over the winter break to where I am not hitting the ball as true as last summer. So that is why I am spending all of this time working to get that fixed before the season starts.

I played this past Friday (first time playing outside all year). I lost two balls on hole 1 teeing off. lol. That wasn't the only time either. lol.

Those numbers look great to be honest. below 3000 back spin is key and letting the ball carry pretty damn far!

Now, the key is putting it all together....lol. Which I am working towards.

From what my pro golf instructor said, its the shaft. I went from very flexible to extra stiff. His driver was stiff.

I got a new driver because of the old tech and there was a dent on the toe of the driver. So I said, lets just go ahead and replace it after seeing the results of hitting his driver! Plus, I got the new driver for a great price and it was tough to pass up! I plan on keeping this driver for another 10 years. So it was worth it to me to spend a little.

I never knew PXG did that! There is a PXG about 15mins from me. So I might head there this summer and see what it's all about.

That is why I bought a golf mat and golf hitting net. I want to be able to work on my swing when I have some extra time during the week. It's better than heading to the range and it's about 1.5hr round trip for me. So if I can just head outside for 15mins to work on my irons or driver..then it's all worth it. I just want to be more consistent hitting my irons and making good contact.

I will be in the market for new irons next summer. I want to focus on the above first and go from there.
I think that driver challenge was a short term offer. Not sure if it is ongoing.

Yeah, I didn't think so either but it would be cool to check it out though. We don't have many things like that here in Cincinnati.

First bucket of ball at the range today. I brought the 5i and driver. Driver was working pretty well - I hit most of them at or near my max distance and mostly straight. 5i felt better toward the end of the session after not feeling right in the beginning.

I am in no hurry to get on the course yet - it will be a while in this area before the weather is pleasant enough for me to be on the course.

Glad things were working well for you! I am still working on dialing in my driver and iron swing. Been tough getting out there with the rainy weather and house projects.

I am hoping to hit for a few hours this Friday to get things dialed in.

My work league starts on 4/23, so I want to start strong and be more consistent hitting my drives straight and making good contact with my irons.

I try to emulate Scotty McIlroy’s swing, mainly heels planted. His tee shots are explosive which is something else I like in his swing. Yesterday the heels/posture was working well and I worked on maximizing club head velocity for maximum controllable power.

For irons I need work on aligning my body and club face to the hole and making good contact with the ball. I am not looking for explosive power with irons, yet.

It's funny you say that because I have been watching some of his driver videos. I think I know what to tweak, it's just a matter of getting out there and practice it. He has a nice, solid, smooth swing.

I am just looking to make decent, consistent contact with mine. Its a huge let down when you drive the ball perfectly then when it's time to hit your approach shot..you muff it. Very frustrating! So I am trying to work through that.

Wife and I took our 7.5 year old daughter to Indy this weekend for a quick family getaway because we heard great things about the Indianapolis Children's Museum..so we went and didn't care for it. Very old and dated.

So our Hilton hotel had a two bay Full Swing golf sim in the lobby. Needed to book an appointment for it. We drove up on Friday morning and had the bay reserved from 3pm - 5pm. Played a little golf with my daughter for about 40 mins and they went upstairs to swim while I worked on my swing and hit some balls.

I started to work on a few things and change my grip and saved a few golf videos that I could watch and try out while there.

The attached picture is of me working on my swing and the results of it. I wasn't going for hardcore numbers but I wanted to work on my swing and get a feel for it.

I brought my 4i, 7i, 9i and my new driver with me.

The picture, I am pretty happy with. The red lines look very consistent. Swing is still a work in progress but I am overall happy with it.

The family and I spent a couple hours at Top Golf in Vegas last week. This is my youngest and his swing is pretty decent for 9 years old. He needs smaller clubs though.

We were in Vegas for 3 nights and our hotel room view was looking into Top Golf so we had to experience it. Good times!

For sure! I will also add that we had our cheapest meal there too compared to our other eating spots on the strip.

That really doesn't surprise me to be honest. When I was out there back in 2016, even then...the prices were just nuts. Can't imagine it now.

Top Golf here is pricey. But its the experience so its worth it.

Vegas knows how to get ya. Convenience equals big money on the strip. My wife likes to drink Lamarca Prosecco sparkling wine. The little stand in our hotel 1 bottle was 54 bucks after tax. But if you walked about a quarter mile out of the casino to the ABC store you can get two bottles for 32 bucks. We don't gamble but the folks that gamble often and are part of casinos loyalty programs are the ones that get all the deals on shows, meals, drinks, etc. I don't know. We got sucked into Vegas because of the cheap flights and cheap hotel stay. It ended up being cheaper all in than other spring break trips we have done.

Top Golf was about 60 bucks for 2 hours of golfing. Then food and drinks were about 120 for the four of us.

I may turn on the "all shots" tracing next session to get a better visual idea of my clustering.

It's funny how the alcohol works. When we usually go, we stop before we head to the hotel at a liquor store and stock up..so we can help offset the outrageous costs of a drink.

The wife and I back in 2016 stayed at Caesar's and we went to the pool one day there. Any specialty drink we ordered was around $35-$40. Can't imagine it being anywhere close to that this year.

Food is just outrageous too. Buffets at Caesar were over $80 for the same thing you get at a Denny's.

It was fun being there then but we were passing through on our way back from being in Utah visiting Mt. Zion and had a few extra days to spend in Vegas.

I like seeing all of my shots in a cluster like that. Makes it easier to see how well my swing is doing.

Question for everyone.

I am in need of new wedges. What is everyone hitting?

I am looking at:

Cleveland RTX 6 Zip Core Tour in a 54* and 58*
Taylormade Milled Grind 1
Mizuno...can't seem to find the model.

Thoughts?

Been a fan of Cleveland wedges for a long time. Currently rocking the RTX 6 Zip Core Tour in 50, 54 SW, 58 LW.

Very happy. ALso like the look of the PXG 0311 wedges but so happy with Cleveland I'll never know.

Awesome! Good to know! So its worth it then to get the Cleveland wedges? I was speaking with my golf coach yesterday and he and his other tour pro friend swear by those.

How far do you hit the 54 and 58? Right now, Cleveland has a sale on them. Reason why I am asking is because I currently have a 52, 56 and 60 wedge from a budget friendly company that I bought in a pinch last year and want to upgrade my game in that area.

Thanks!

I think they are worth the price. On how far the question is how to fit them into your bag. For example if you have a strong lofted set of irons it means you need a stronger gap wedge. Or not.

In my case my wedge is probably about 48 degrees so I needed to fill in the 10 yard increments with the 50, 54 and 58. The following are all full swing but not nuke attempt with my wedges.

Wedge - 120
50 - 110
54 - 100
58 - 90 pushing it.

Thank you for that! Cleveland is currently running a sale on them and I don’t want to pass that up! I am having a hard time figuring out which ones I need. To make things a little more complicated, I picked up a 60 degree today that is super mint and looks like it was never played. So now, I need to figure out what degrees I need to fill the gap between my 46 PW and now my 60. I am thinking a 52 and 56. Or should I look at a different combo and just get a 54 to pair with the 60?

Question for everyone.

I am in need of new wedges. What is everyone hitting?

I am looking at:

Cleveland RTX 6 Zip Core Tour in a 54* and 58*
Taylormade Milled Grind 1
Mizuno...can't seem to find the model.

Thoughts?
Yeah, I saw Bryson's on TheMasters instagram and it got me thinking.

As for wedges -

I currently have in the rotation:

- 64* $5 bargain bin find that for some reason just works really well for me
- 60* high bounce callaway jaws
- 56* high bounce callaway jaws
- 52* high bounce callaway jaws
- 60* low bounce PXG wedge
- 54* low bounce PXG wedge

Thinking of picking up some Vokeys at some point and seeing what all the hype's about, I may go full Titleist on my next set.

Yardage - I hit my 60* about 100-105 carry at full strength, but almost never hit it full strength. The 60-64 are typically reserved for short floppy shots around the green where I have a narrow landing area or slope that runs away from me. I hit the 52* about 115-120y, and the 54-56 is like my 110-ish club. I can maaaaybe crank the 52 out to 125, but realistically I usually just hit a soft PW instead. My PW covers me anywhere from 130-145, 9i gets me about 145-160, 8i gets me 160-175, 7i is 175-190, 6i is 190-205, 5i 205-220, 4i 220-235, then it goes to my 3H, 3W, DOD.

Lower end of the range is a relaxed swing, high end is cranking it 100%.

I wish I could help. IMO figuring out wedges is a very personal thing and takes some trial and error. One of the reasons I have no interest in new irons is because I FINALLY got my clubs dialed in for specific yardage.
