anyone travel(int.) alot with luggage? my girl basically got robbed.
Does anyone travel international alot with heavy luggage?
My girl just left to korea couple days ago and called me back saying that some expensive stuff in her bag were gone. She only had one bigass luggage which she checked in. Her coach bag, camera and some other expensive stuff were all missing. it seems like it was stolen for sure. Is there anything we can do about this? I see no way, because there is no way we can claim that those stuff were in there since we don't normally take pictures of our luggage after we pack. If there is nothing you can do, what can you do to prevent this? I know if you put a lock on it, they ask for the key at the security check point.. what is the point if they have the damn key.

Never leave expensive stuff away from your sight. She should have carried two bags. One for everyday stuff and one for expensive stuff. The expensive stuff should be kept by her side all the time.

+1, sorry to hear about your gf's situation but you can try calling the airlines and filing a claim.. they just have to go with your word I guess.

well, best piece of advice is to use luggage locks. most likely the things were removed when sitting on the tarmac, not when it was being checked by security. however, i would reccomend using a second carry-on, like what was suggested. that way all the expensive stuff is on your person.
you might try the insurnace rout, but be warned that making a claim on insurance usually hikes the rates for next year. i would say, although it sucks, you learned your lesson and move on. |

There are TSA approved luggage locks. At some airports (like MIA for e.g.)there are services/vendors that shrink wraps your luggage(s) for a fee. I think this is the most secure, especially when you're going to airports/destinations you are unsure of (like some south american countries). The (more dangerous) flipside of this situation is when drug traffickers put merchandise in your luggage as a way to smuggle drugs in/out. That is a far more bigger concern than losing some belongings out of your luggage.

That sucks but its true, if youre worried about something going missing ALWAYS carry it on/with you. I know sometimes thats hard to do. If they lost my luggage, there is no way in hell their "reimbursement" per bag would cover a quarter of what I packed is worth but what can you do? When I travel, they literally have to pry my luggage out of my hands because Im so afraid Ill never see my stuff again.

Wow that sucks.
How shady.... What airline was it? I recently paid extra $100 for the minor child escort fee for my future sister in law which Delta claimed it was mandatory for a child under 14 yrs. And they ended up not rendering any of the service that they were charging me for, no escort to the guardian nor bagage pick up that they promised. I filed a claim on BBB but haven't heard the verdict yet. Delta is a major shady airline... |

Most of the people with LV anything are too poor to afford the bag in the first place. It's a scam to sell expensive stuff to poor people, so that they can look rich. People buy LV trying to impress people they don't know.
No offense to OP. You live and learn. Next time, carry all valuable in the carry-on. File an insurance claim, if you can. File a claim with the airline. TSA locks won't stop any thief working for an airline, or at an airport. I'm very sorry that your GF got robbed. It's a horrible feeling. I detest dishonesty. |
